The top 10 men's college basketball freshmen so far this season, ranked by Andy Katz

Andy Katz ranked his most impactful men's basketball freshmen on winning teams so far this season in the latest March Madness 365 podcast and live on b/r.

Here are Katz's top freshmen:

quote:

1. Brandon Miller, Alabama

Miller is one of the best true scorers in the country. Averaging 19.1 points and nearly nine rebounds per game, Alabama’s young star has separated himself from the pack in his first year of college basketball. Miller has become a superstar talent, and the runaway favorite for national freshman of the year. But it’s not just freshman player of the year Miller should have his eyes on. “He will make a push for national player of the year,” Katz said. Miller’s breakout game came last month, when he scored 36 points, including six threes in a loss to Gonzaga.

If you can make it to a home game (or an away game for that matter), do it.

I've lived in Knoxville for the past 8 years and hate how much basketball I have missed in-person because of it. I bought my ticket to the UT matchup in Feb. today. Can't wait to see this team.

So is it everyones opinion that Miller is the best Freshman to have ever played at Alabama? He is pretty clearly the best freshman nationally this year.

I would say that before now I’d give that nod to Sexton but Miller has passed him.

I am too young to have watched the Wimp years, Gottfried was the coach when I started watching.

As a TF probably not. Wimp’s teams was developed Jr’s & Sr’s. Great veteran players, but B.Miller is just a different level player compared to those players from that era.

Yea I think so. In terms of raw ability, production, national perception, etc....I think he's pretty clearly at the top of the list.

My SOG Lifetime All-Freshman Alabama Team
G - Collin Sexton (17-18)
G - Hollywood Robinson (90-91)
F - Brandon Miller (22-23)
F - Antonio McDyess (93-94)
C - Bobby Lee Hurt (81-82) (right before my time but heard enough)

G - Trevor Releford (10-11)
G - Mo Williams (01-02)
F - Kennedy Winston (02-03)
F - Rod Grizzard (99-00)
F - JaMychal Green (08-09)
C - Erwin Dudley (99-00)
C - Richard Hendrix (05-06)

Gerald Wallace was a big time signee but was insanely raw. Basically rebounded, dunked and guarded. Mo Williams had a very solid freshman year but was more of a true PG that year - he won SEC Freshman of the Year.

The 99-00 class was awesome. Grizzard and Dudley had huge freshmen years.

Miller is the first player to be named on the midseason watch list since Collin Sexton in 2017-18.

The award is given to the top player in college basketball.

The offense is bad and the effort wasn’t there at all tonight.

Do we want Auburn to beat Arkansas Saturday to give them another loss in SEC play or have auburn lose so they don’t get a solid resume win?
