Here is our other biggest issue - not only do we turn it over a lot, we don't turn over other teams. It's really hard to play a great offense (like Gonzaga was) and hold up for 40 minutes when you almost never turn them over.

We are #317 in turnover percentage but we are even worse at #337 in turnover defense.

Clearly? No. A lot of his misses at the rim have been DOA because there was nothing there and he took the shot anyway. His play style is definitely hampered by a knee that isn't 100%, but his shot selection this season has been atrocious even for a guy who has alwsys had a tendency to take heat checks immediately after making anything.

Now, something being there if his knee was 100% is certainly a possibility, but regardless of whether that is the case he has to stop doing this shite where the ball has to navigate its way through 3 sets of arms just to get to the rim.

He's been getting an extraordinarily high percentage of his shots blocked at the rim, and I do think that's largely in part due to his lack of finishing burst. In past seasons, he'd get the ball on the backboard so quick that the rim protectors couldn't block it. Even a slight loss in speed is going to affect those types of attempts.

The TOs and decision-making is what has worried me the most though. Even the great assists he pulls off are something I'd label as a poor decision (high-risk) that worked out in his favor. He's loose with his handle on drives, yet consistently chooses to drive into traffic. It drives me insane.

That was my thought - he used to be excellent (even when he was struggling at other things) at bursting to the rim and making those split second layups where he used his body to shield the defender create separation for just enough time to flip it up. He doesn't seem to be able to do that right now.

Do you have where we were at for turning folks over during the 2020-2021 season?

2021 - #79 (20.5%)

So even with a high level overall unit, we still couldn’t turn folks over. I’m a big Charlie Henry hater but if and when we have a staff change, I sure hope it’s him that leaves.

Dom’s injury is super weird. Had heard for a little bit that he was expected to come back pretty soon (I remember sending that in here), then right after that I was told from someone in the program it was highly unlikely it’d be anytime this month. January at the earliest. Now Oats is saying right after Christmas.

That makes me think his injury has to be something minor that just keeps flaring up which would explain why there’s so many different reports on it and why he’s been listed as “day to day” but hasn’t played at all. Hopefully whatever is going on is close to being over with but I’m not gonna hold my breath.

#2 out of 48 in usage rate

I assume usage rate is when he is actually on the floor and as others have mentioned, “he’s going to make SOMETHING happen when he has the ball.” Oats isn’t helping by expecting that from him…run a freaking offensive set with him in the game instead of just iso ball or pick and roll. When Q’s running pick and roll, other teams have figured out to just switch and dare JQ to drive or shoot over the big man. Trying to pass to the mismatch usually ends up in a TO due to either help defense deflecting the pass, or we hit our big at the free throw line and they don’t know what to do with the ball. They aren’t Timme and can’t shoot the midrange, they get it stolen or charge when they try to dribble against the guard/help defense, or in the rare occasion there is over-helping, they find the open man in the corner…which usually works but not if one of your best shooters goes 1-6 on wide open 3s.

I wouldn’t over help if I was playing us. Force Chuck, Clowney or Gurley to run point from the FT against a guard and sag on JQ to let him try to shoot over the big guy (or force a drive against sagging defense…neither of those are working). Clowney is probably our best option there, but I think he usually isn’t playing when Q’s in the game.

NUMBERS don't LIE...I LOVE IT.

JQ hasn't been GOOD

Keep those NUMBERS please!

Folks writing him OFF once again...
JQ KNEE isn't HEALTHY...
JQ don't need to PLAY...
JQ wasn't good LAST YEAR...
JQ is just not GOOD...

I'm a say this again...JQ is the quickest ball handler when he's on the court and he's better than all our GUARDS at breaking down a defender on an UNHEALTHY KNEE (SOME SAY).

EXPLAIN HOW'S THAT POSSIBLE IF HE ISN'T HEALTHY?

IT'S ALL MENTAL.

Keep the same ENERGY throughout the season because...HE'S COMING!

On offense you might be right. The problem is that sometimes the physical is easier to fix than the mental. There’s nothing in his shooting performance last year that makes me think he’s going to be able to fix the mental this year (although I hope he proves me wrong!!).

SOG’s TO chart is very, very concerning. It’s practically a miracle that we are a top 10 team when we are squarely in a quadrant with UGA, USCe, and Vandy in Bball…and we’re worse than all 3 in the chart. That better get fixed or we won’t stay top 15 for long.

On Hey Coach Oats sounded like the plan is to bring Welch back for the Miss St game.

Barely top 25. I know it’s “over-react” time but that loss really looked bad from an eye-test POV.

It looked more like a 20 point loss to a good but definitely not great Gonzaga team. No G player played “out of his mind”, the entire team just had open easy shot after easy shot, mostly near the basket.

The offense looked bad too, especially for a 90 point game. It took a spectacular effort by Bama’s best player to keep Bama from losing by 20-25.

IMO, Bama’s resume is misleading and they got easily man-handled by the two best teams they’ve played (Houston will have a good record vs a weak schedule, but IMO they are overrated).

Bama may begin 1-3 in SEC play on the way to an 9-11 win record, with a sweet 16 ceiling, probably out in the 2nd round without a good draw.

Wow what a bad take after one loss ??, but there was nothing good in that game but Miller, even with 6 TOs, Bradley and Cloeney’s rebounding. The D and TOs are disheartening and ongoing.
