It's not really something that happens all that often. They did the first one in 2017 and then did a JV version in 2019 (Memphis, Oklahoma St, Oregon, Oregon State) and then this year in honor of Phil Knights birthday.

UConn beats Iowa State by 18. I'd guess they jump into the Top 10 tomorrow.

Bama should be top 10 as well.

Portland every year. Great event and I understand the Nike ties but moving it around might make for better game atmospheres

Or just move it to a much smaller venue. Playing in 2 NBA arena with high school level crowds is weird.

Having it on the Portland State and UPortland makes more sense both around 4000 seats

That UConn team is old school Big East to the absolute max. Hurley has a damn squad.

They have the perfect combination of skilled athletic players and white guys who can shoot the leather off the basketball.

I’m still mad at Nate for not getting the ball to Sears more in the OTs.

Yep. When a player has the hot hand, feed him the basketball.

Our next game is Saturday night vs 3-4 South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
It doesn't get any easier for the now 5-3 Tarheels. As they will be in Bloomington Indiana Wednesday night to face the 6-0 Hoosiers.

They might not be number one but I do believe UConn is top 5 easily. Bama should be ranked in the Top 10 and by the way it feels so good to be back on the winning side of things.

Can't wait to get Welch back.

On the goaltending note, I believe the official called it because he wanted to review it to make sure (probably the right call). However, that could have been a disaster for us. The officials need to have the procedure on goaltends changed. Maybe call the goaltend with a hand-signal and blow the whistle once the ball has been possessed?

Fortunately, the possession arrow was in our favor,

It was basically 50/50 that we had the possession arrow. It was aggravating because the ball was blocked and Alabama had the ball in hand when the play was stopped. Should not be a "jump ball" in this case. What if it was blocked, UNC got it? They'd have to give up the ball to us? If they are gonna stop play, give the ball to the team in possession.
Further, are we going to review every goaltend from here on?

Yeah, I think we beat two top ~15 teams and lost to a top 3 team. Overall a very successful trip. If we can find a way to go 2-1 against that Houston-Memphis-Gonzaga stretch we will have one of the best looking OOC resumés in the country.

Both teams are going through some really tough stretch of games. Hopefully we take care of business easiiwith SDS. Because the Houston & Gonzaga game are going to be really difficult games to win

he had at least two air balls in OT. I wish we would run some double screens for number 24, and try to get him a look. But dont have him dribble drive to the basket.

The win over UNC is the 5th most exciting game in KenPom's Game Rankings since '10.

1. '22 Houston Baptist - McNeese St. (149-144, 4 OT)
2. '20 GA Tech - GA State. (123-120, 4 OT)
3. '11 Norfolk St. - Coppin St. (110-108, 2OT)
4. '10 CS Fullerton - CS Northridge (113-112, 3OT)

UNC tumbled to #21 in KenPom. UConn up to #6. Alabama holding in that 10-15 range at #14.

I like the way our schedule sets up after a quick 3 games against really good competition. 2 games in 2 weeks gives us plenty of time to work on what we learned out in Portland, and also gives Clowney (and hopefully Welch) some time to heal up.

I agree. Effort is not a problem with this team.
They make a lot of mistakes. However, they play their asses off and just knocked off the #1 ranked Tarheels in a crazy thriller on national tv.

the sloppiness is not due to lack of talent, thats for damn sure. many growing pains as expected against top competition but the potential is crazy. hopefully we get there by tourney time. at this rate im pretty sure well either win the whole thing or lose in the first round. no inbetween.
