Stevenson was terrible defensively. Walters played dam good defense tonight.
No. it's not. Stevenson showed good defense on the perimeter. If he had a poor defense in the first place, Oats wouldn't have used him.
What Stevenson failed to do today was miss wide open shots and free throws.

Yea, I don't know what was going on there.

Estrada who was on fire in the first half was completely shut down by the them in the second half.
That’s kudos to them. Nelson and Griffin had to step up in this game offensively for us to win; they didn’t and with Estrada not scoring it was good night Tide.

Jarin Stevenson sleeps to much on defense.
He helped Tennessee start a run to close the gap.

Loved the competitiveness we had on defense in the second half, but we were fortunate to survive the defense we played in the first half. UT had wide open looks the entire half that they were just missing.
The main thing we need to fix defensively is the amount of over-helping we do. It's been a problem all year, but it's something that shouldn't be all that hard to fix. While Sears has some great defensive play-making ability at times, he puts our defense in a bind way too often with helping off his man unnecessarily. There had to have been 10 times tonight where he left his man and the result was a wide open 3 from his man or a swing to the eventual wide open corner. And that double he sprung on Knecht late because he hit a highly contested mid-range shot the play before (a shot we love to make the other team shoot) still has me hot.

Today we lost by 7 points and we could have won if we had Wrightsell, who is averaging 9 points.

Lost to a better team - a Final Four team. No shame in this.

It's hard to empathize with this at all. Oats is not stupid. If he was a problem in defense, Dioubate or Walters would have been used.

He is a problem on defense, but Walters is even more so most nights. You'd have a hard time convincing me that Dioubate wouldn't be the choice right now if he could shoot and not cause spacing issues on the other end.
Stevenson has a high ceiling, but he's still very raw. Saying he's a problem on defense doesn't mean Oats is stupid for playing him. It means we have extremely bad frontcourt options from a defensive standpoint. Our guard play from a defensive POV isn't all that much different than last year in my opinion. It's the 3-5 defensive options that have been vastly different in defensive quality.

Idk what's up with our offensive strategy, but we just can't get many open looks from 3. Are we not screening well or is it the actual plays being called? Always seems we have a hand in our face!

A win at FL would be awesome, but realistically we need to make sure we beat Arkansas and win the first game of the SECT. Lock up a top 4 seed and hope we don’t get put in UConn or UH’s bracket.
There are a few teams we want no part of in the tourney due to matchups, UConn, UH, Kansas, Tenn being the main 4. Give me Purdue, Iowa St., Illinois, or possibly even Baylor (although they may score 105 on us).
Secure a top 4 seed, and we have a legit shot at getting to the 2nd weekend in back to back years, and 3 out of 4. It’s been a long, long time since Bama Basketball could say they did that.

Tonight, Sam Walters was better that's all I'm saying.

They called a lot of bullshite moving screens tonight they usually don’t call so I guess we were more hesitant to set them. I’m guessing Barnes told them before the game to look for them and then was harping about it the whole game.
I think Tennessee was fools gold all previous years under Barnes….i don’t think they are this year

He's our run STOPPER.
Nobody could stop the bleeding on offense.

This has to do with the ability of the ball handler. It's not that Sears and Estrada don't have assist ability, but they are basically closer to SG type players than PG type players.
They can be seen as the type of players whose influence when they score well leads to assists.

Tennessee - 81PTS (FG 24-66 36.4% , 3PT 12-40 30% , FT 21-29 72.4%) / 42REB (OREB 12 , DREB 30) / 14AST / 7STL / 4BLK / 6TOV / 22PF
Bama - 74PTS (FG 23-60 38.3% , 3PT 9-37 24.3% , FT 19-25 76%) / 44REB (OREB 11 , DREB 33) / 16AST / 4STL / 2BLK / 12TOV / 24PF
There was little difference in offense and defense from the opposing team today.
The reason for the loss was that in the second half we had more turnovers and at key moments the opposing team scored and our team did not score.
Don't forget we had a crappy 20 point game against Tennessee last time out. Even though we lost today, we showed better performance than before. The season isn't over yet.

Wrightsell has been out 4 games and we shot poorly in 3 of them… that’s not a coincidence.
Wrightsell is the most important player on this team. He is the John Petty of this team.
Yeah we have a lot of guys that can shoot but Wrightsell is the most infectious shooter on this team. When he shoots well the whole team shoots well. It was the same way with Petty.

3 out of 4 games are against teams ranked in the AP Top 25.
It can be seen that it was not an easy match even if Wrightsell was there in the first place.
I also think that if Wrightsell were there today, there is a high possibility that he would have won, and I miss him, but to be honest, I don't know the result. Because no one knows whether Wrightsell would have done well or not. This is because in the last game against Tennessee, we lost by 20 points and Wrightsell played 22 minutes and only scored 2 points. FG 0-3, 3PT 0-3, FT 2-2
(In fact, he has a poor record against AP Top 25 teams this season.)

Awesome analogy and it's spot on!
Latrell Wrightsell Jr is the spark plug for this team.
