Pretty sure they already own most of the Bryce land or can get it with ease. ADMH doesn't need it. UA basically helped build the new bryce and related facilities around there. One of those rare things that worked well for both.

thread from OT
Anyone do volunteer coaching for youth sports…does it ever get better?

This is my first time doing it for a U7 rec league and holy shite do I regret it. There were a lack of coaches so I did it so my kid could could play. Huge mistake.
The parents are pure trash. The worst are parents of the really good players. Complaining about their kids getting pulled all the time. It is an entry level rec league. Everyone nominally gets equal playing time. Same parents getting worked up by refs who are usually teenagers. It is misery personified. They need to move their kid up if they are that good.
Anyone else have similar experiences coaching? My worry is I’ll have to do it for whole time my younger kid wants to play due to lack of coaches. She is a beginner and in no way ready for a more competitive league.

That’s a loser mentality. They’re not gonna win the league thinking like that.

Exactly.

I think people are too worried about the defense. They just gotta get hot at the right time.
Teams that have made Final 4 the last 5 years with defense that weren’t elite:
According to Torvik:
2018 Loyola Chicago 48th
2019 Auburn 48th
2021 UCLA 76th
2022 North Carolina 57th
2023 Miami 136th

According to Torvik our defense is 27th at home and 175th on the road.

Saw that online and it made me smile seeing some names we don't normally talk or think about from recent history.
Brian Williams, Alonzo Gee, Levi Randolph, Earnest Shelton, Retin Obasohan, Rodney Cooper, Terrance Meade, Chuck Davis, Senario!
Also goes to show that guys who can score just don't stick around at one school for 4 years very often anymore.

yep most career records are safe now. Nobody plays at one place for 4 years.

I will say, if Mark finishes this year on the same pace and comes back next year........it's entirely reasonable that he could get close to 2,000 and be the #2/3 all-time leading scorer behind Mule. Which is pretty incredible.
2023 - 463
2024 - 759 (current pace over 37 games)
2025 - 700 (less scoring due to less need hopefully)
Total - 1,922

Retin Obasohan. Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time.

My son played in a small local league made up of teams of 1st and 2nd graders. Goals are 7 foot, both teams shoot free-throws pregame to increase the point totals, and there's games where the score never changes from what was made from those pregame free throws.
Parents and coaches still yell at the refs. Kids are running around with the ball on the court carrying the ball with no call, but they want little Jimmy to be called for a shooting foul every possession.
it's fricking ridiculous.

They have to find the $$ to get Sears back.

Alonzo Gee is 13th all time? That dude couldn’t shoot at all. To his credit tho he worked his arse off and had a nice NBA career

Since the thread is going on a walk down memory lane it seems like a good time to share tha Bama & Athletes Thread have embarked on a line of alumni offerings and former players can benefit from their name image and likeness. I love this - especially in the current era of unlimited transfers, it’s great to remember the ones who stayed.

Retin was a fantastic bridge while Avery Jr. was sitting out and awaiting his time to shine. Really though we would have been fricking putrid his senior year it he hadn't stepped up like he did.
