Nelson is a stretch 4 being forced to play the 5 because the guy we expected to be there isn't, Wague can't switch, and Pringle spends more time in the doghouse for being checked out at practice than he does checked into a game. Oh and he can't switch either. We're obviously making it work on offense because we're getting flat out stellar guard play, but it really limits us defensively. Props to Nelson for making the adjustments. This really isn't what he signed up to do.

That 3pt shot is just fricking ugly though. He's never going to be remotely consistent with it until he fixes his form. His touch is fine. Really good in fact. He just doesn't have a repeatable shot from 3. His FT form isn't great either, but he repeats it well so it's much less of an issue.

True, I'm just glad he stopped stepping in the lane on every attempt.

For some reason with him I just feel like it's all gonna click and he's going to takeover a game.

Not sure when that's going to happen or if it'll be a one-off on a random weeknight, but dude can ball.

And this comment...

...pretty much summed up what I was trying to get at. Well said.

I’m still confused as to how UGA lost last night and how we won. Neither makes sense. One of the strangest games I’ve seen.

Law of averages helped, and I think Georgia got really comfortable at halftime, and once we put it together offensively they really didn't know how to react. It's extremely hard to pick up your game once you've let off the gas a bit.

How should the starter be changed?

I like small lineups, but for starters, balance and stability between offense and defense are important.

Sears - (Estrada or Wrightsell) - Griffen - Stevenson - Nelson

Estrada and Wrightsell have different types.
Wrightsell has a higher energy level and his 3-point shooting is consistent and good. He is a shooter.
Estrada is more versatile than Wrightsell. He's a ball handler. It has a fatal weakness in that it has severe ups and downs.

I think it would help the team balance better if Estrada plays as a sixth man, but realistically I know that won't happen.

UGA pissed away a big lead because they couldn't put us away and we eventually got hot and flipped the game on its head in 5 minutes. Like I said last night, it was the epitome of what both those coaches do.

I don’t think they do Courtside cam highlights for away game but here are a few of Chris Stewart’s calls from the game:

Let’s get out of here

We won because Oats has transformed Alabama into a winning program. Much like Saban did early, he's engrained into the boys that they are winners and they will win if they trust the process. They are winners mentally first

I don't know if you mean technically, as in what we did differently late, but in terms of the flow it was like a relationship — not so much about them, but more about us.

Both of those slopes are relatively consistent for most of the game, outside of our opening slump.

Then about midway through the second half we hit the gas.

11:16 2H *** AL 46 GA 55
0:00 2H *** AL 85 GA 76

In the first eight minutes of the game, we scored 2 points. In that final 11 minutes or so, we scored 39, and went on a [+18] run.

Extrapolating that out, we started on pace to score 10 PPG and that one late burst was akin to scoring 140 PPG.

I checked the ESPN app game cast and stats last night. At the 10:48 mark of the 2nd half it had UGA with a 93.7% chance of winning. That flipped almost completely within 7-8 minutes of clock time. When the 3s start falling we can make up some ground.

ETA: Just saw paperwasp’s post with the graphic above me. We were rolling in the 2nd half.

Just really can't believe the level this team is playing at. Sure, there is really solid talent, but we lost generational talent from last year. The more I watch this team the more I think they would give last years team a fight. Don't know if they could overcome the length of last years team, but they would fight. Oats is becoming a household name and the truth is he is probably considered the hottest coach in the country.
I say all this because I'm hopeful Byrne is sitting him down and saying what are your absolute top priorities that we can provide you. Obviously he should be paid top 10 money but beyond that, what else keeps him as a permanent fixture here. Am I kidding myself? Can Alabama keep him as a lifer here or is this a let's enjoy it for as long as we can deal and then call Bucky McMillan??

I don't think it's realistic to expect him to be here for 30 years and retire. I have no idea what his personal goals or priorities are so it could happen I suppose, but he seems like a guy destined for an NBA or blue blood job. It's probably going to get really dicey the next couple of years though. Izzo is going to retire soon because he's getting up there in age and is pretty openly fed up with NIL and the portal, and Cal is either going to step away or be killed by a deranged UK fan after another first weekend tournament exit. If we still have him on the other side of that I think the outlook becomes sunnier.

The real question is could he win 26 of 29 anywhere else?

Joking but things are pretty good for him now. Pay him more $.

Yeah, that's the only college job that would concern me, and by a lot.

As for the NBA, I guess it comes down to kids and recruiting vs. grown men. The system would certainly translate, but IDK how he feels about the development part, pro or con.

He obviously keeps up with the NBA, but his stories tend to go back to collegiate coaches and their systems. Hopefully he just loves the grittiness of the amateur game.

Yes. But he can also do that here, obviously. Basketball is a much, much more level playing field than football, so it would be more a prestige thing than a resources needed to win thing. I'd love nothing more than for him to become the Alabama version of Coach K though and oversee the transition from pretty good program to blue blood over the course of 30-40 years.

I think football gets more impacted by NIL than basketball. With smaller rosters I'd imagine a lot of coaches don't mind it at all. Sucks arse for football, which is why you see guys like the BC head coach leave to be a DC in the NFL.
