I just went back and looked at my 21/22 data. That year the drop off started with game 14. The first 13 games we outscored our oponents by 10.77 in the second half and only by 0.63 points in the second half for the last 19 games. That year it started at game 14 and this year it appears to have started at game 11. Not that great a difference given the number of new players who have never been in the kind of shape that our system requires.

Do you want to take the reins on the season thread next year?
This is not good. If Chad’s had enough of the board and SOG is becoming disengaged, we collectively need to “get back in line.”

There are much better bama threads out there than this one.
The Bamaonline bball thread has much more knowledgeable basketball fans and less trolls since you have to pay to post there.
This one is only good when we are winning really. Otherwise its in meltdown mode and is 90% negativity.

I never hate. I don't like his choices on the court but one thing I do like is his effort. I think there are better choices that Coach Oats could make with the available minutes.
Last night for sure when you have one man making shots and the rest heaving bricks.

Go there then by all means. I say what I think. These young men play hard, the effort is there but the staff has to step in and earn their money here.
We don't have a stud like a Brandon Miller to go to. Or a JQ to handle the ball.
What we do have is a team full of role players that have to be and IMO can be coached up into a good team by the end of the year. They just completed a murderers row that they played pretty well in until late last night.
The ones I have felt bad for through this stretch are Wague and Pringle. I have NEVER understood why officials call more fouls on the visiting team. The home team never fouls, and the visitors don't get the calls.
This is BS. Last night was a prime example. Ballo I think his name was parked under the basket lowered his shoulder to make room and did whatever like a bull in a china shop while our guys got a whistle for giving ground. Hopefully this stretch will make our guys better, because they have faced as good as they will all year.

As a freshman Nelson shot 35.6% for 3s and has declined every year since. This year to date 25%. Good chance he is doing something in his weight training that is bad technique for his shooting.

2020-21 / 3PT 0.6-1.7 / 3P% 35.6
2021-22 / 3PT 1.0-3.0 / 3P% 32.2
2022-23 / 3PT 0.8-3.1 / 3P% 26.9
2023-24 / 3PT 1.3-5.1 / 3P% 25.0
Nelson’s weight training and shooting have nothing to do with it.
To begin with, Nelson has never been good at 3-point shooting.
His 35.6% 3-point shooting percentage in his first season came from 1.7 attempts.

Grants form on these 3s is brutal to watch. He shoots like a 40 year old dude at the YMCA.

I said good probability. You made a definitive statement that i seriously doubt you have sufficient information to make.

Let's hear some conference record predictions.
I'll go with 11-7, based on there are other SEC schools underperformed in the preseason non conference slate, too.

Grant’s form reminds me of Bradley from last year. You just know by watching them shoot that they will never be great shooters.

I look at Kentucky and I see a team that's ran by a guy who's not the most athletic nor is he the biggest.
Reed Shepard is a baller and Travis Perry will be as well because they just know how to play the game of basketball.

Whoever the shooting coach is...they need to make Grant Nelson shoot the ball like it's a free throw. Stand still and shoot it like a free throw then once the form stay consistent then you gradually elevate a little.
His free throw shooting form is phenomenal.

People said the same thing about JD.
You can fix your shot but it takes work!!

What do you guys think our record will be in these next 11 games? I say 8 and 3 with a good chance we could go 9 and 2.

I don't feel comfortable picking games with this team. The defense is so bad that it is largely going to depend on whether the opponent is cold.

and we've proved that "not our best ball" can take down 3 top 10 teams (2 top 5) on a neutral floor.

How does that translate to "not our best ball" is better than a top 5 team? "Not our best ball" is not good enough to beat fringe top 25 teams.

This is an insane statement. We lost all three of those games, two of them on a neutral floor.
Hilarious that us losing by a combined 9 points in two of those games (one "neutral", one away) makes it "insane" to think we CAN take down either of those teams on a truly neutral floor. And that's leaving the officiating in those games out of it.
You can think differently about the Arizona game if you wish. But the truth is, despite playing our far and away worst offensive game of the year on that "neutral court" (in Phoenix, Arizona), it took Arizona until the final 3 minutes to put us away.
Keep in mind, that the worst matchup for us in the entire country is Purdue and the second is probably Arizona because of their size. Creighton is also a team predicated on playing through their bigs.
quote:
And if your argument is that it wasn't entirely neutral, when you're playing a top 5 team in the NCAA tournament, the fan split ain't gonna be 50/50.
I also love that you missed the whole point in my post, which is that the last 3 games are actually more encouraging to me than what we've seen prior to those games (like the Ohio State and Clemson matchups you mentioned). We don't have to pump sunshine and there is a lot to groan about, but some of y'all are so set in your misery that you can only think emotionally instead of logically. Is our record frustrating? Yes. Are we hanging with top 10 teams despite being capable of playing better ball (in some cases much better)? Also yes. This is why our advanced rankings are pretty solid despite our poor record. Almost all new players and coaches, so if any team in the country is capable of improving with more time to gel it's our guys. We'll see if that's the case or not in conference play.

I’d actually say 8-3 is a pretty good guess. Id guess lose at Tennessee and and at MSU. Drop one other one somewhere else.
