Was surprised to see AU going to App State to be honest,

I'm jealous of them. It's been years since I've been to Boone. Worth the risk of a road loss for that trip.

I never said we don’t have any talent. If you look at our roster there is not a lot of athleticism. Meaning guys who can run the floor, get rebounds, block shots, play defense. We don’t have a lot of that this year. It’s bad that we can’t give an honest assessment of our team without being labeled a troll. I love Bama basketball and will be at the game next Saturday.

Nelson and Pringle are probably two of the 10 most athletic players in the SEC.

And isn’t Nelson nursing a knock? I expect he’ll be a problem in SEC play.

I get it. But you need to actually look at who Clemson has played. They currently have the #12 SOS. I think they'll do better then people expect, and finish the season as a ranked team.

They’ve played 0 teams currently in the top 25. We are their best win. If they’re SOS is 12, it’s because they haven’t played any horrible teams and have played 3 true road games. South Carolina, TCU, Davidson, Pitt, UAB, Winthrop, Boise St, Alcorn St, Memphis isn’t exactly a gauntlet. Not to mention Queens and Radford in their next 2. Not sure what you were trying to point to, but I don’t think it makes Clemson look good. They’re not that good, and have 0 ranked wins and 0 games played against ranked teams (unless you count us since we were ranked at the time).

Dont go by the AP top 25 in basketball, it ranks teams by their number of wins and losses and thats about it.

KenPom takes schedules into account, so does the net. We’re 9th on KenPom and 10th in the net and Clemson beat us so they do have a top 25 win. They also only have one loss and that was on the road vs #32 Memphis by two points, which isn't a bad loss, albeit worse than any of our losses.

I’m well aware of the nuances between AP, Coaches, and the various power rankings like Kenpom. Ironically, Kenpom has Clemson at 25 vs. ranked 13th. They also have us ranked 16 spots ahead of the team that beat us pretty well on our own court. So I’m not sure I’d blindly declare “use Kenpom over AP” without digging a bit deeper.

We are not a top 25 team right now, no matter what Kenpom or Net says.

You know better than KenPom or the Net? You should start your own rankings, you could make a lot of money.

The NCAA selection committee chose the NCAA tournament seeds based off the NET rankings for a long time.

I would argue the NET is pretty much the final arbiter of the matter though.

There are basically 2 worlds. Pure predictives like KenPom, and pure reactives like RPI. NET, while flawed, is an attempt to find a middle ground.

The polls are basically a meaningless popularity contest lol.

What analytics does Ken Pom and NET use?

The main one is AdjEM. KenPom calculates by number of possessions per game while NET does it by per 100 possessions.

Either way it’s a far better predictor than RPI ever was.

(To make it clearer, AdjEM is AdjO minus AdjD)

Nelson passed up some wide open 3s so I'm hoping that it was the injury that still had him llimited.

You honestly think the selection committee would put us a 3 seed if they chose tonight????

The selection committee has always had a couple outliers vs Net every year, and everyone knows the Net isn’t very reliable early in the season. If you’re saying we should be higher than a 6-9 seed with our current resume, then you aren’t being honest. That’s exactly where the AP and Coaches have us. It will play out over the year and generally the AP/Coaches converge on Kenpom and Net. But this early, it’s not wise to blindly use one or the other.

Lunardi has us as a 5 seed in his latest update. He has Auburn as a 5 seed as well.

Even then it’s all GIGO right now, to be honest. Not a full sample quite yet.

That was at least 1 loss ago. Pretty sure that goes to 6 in the next one. So that’s not 9th or 10th in the country.

Again, having us 16 spots ahead of the team that owned us on our court and has only 1 loss at a good Memphis team doesn’t make any sense (and we have no wins better than their top wins). Any reasonable person would see that doesn’t make sense and that Net/Kenpom is overrating “good losses” early in the season. It will generally work out in the end, but you get some oddities early on.

We didn't drop one spot on KenPom or in the NET after losing by 3 on the road @Creighton, we're still top 10 in both. If Lunardi drops us at all it will probably be one or two spots.

I go by KenPon and the NET for rankings over bracket projections though.

Why are we all arguing about this stuff nonstop?

Point is our metrics are VERY GOOD. But we still gotta win at least 17-18 games for it to matter.Which this team should do

I see 21 as doable.
