The way to beat Purdue? Make Lurch run. Make Zach Edey get up and down the floor get up as many shots as we can and swarm him when they get the ball

Not having Grant would be massive for this game. We need someone to pull Edey away from the rim

Maybe this could be a good opportunity for Stevenson. If he can make high-efficiency 3-point shots in away games, we could get good results.
He needs to play with more confidence on offense and defense.

Still waiting on the press conference to be posted but here are 2 quotes from the SI write up
On Nelson:
"He hasn’t practiced yet, but we’re gonna try tomorrow and see how it goes," Oats said. "It’s not an injury that should hold him out longer than a week or two. If he can’t go Saturday, I’m very confident he’ll be able to play the following week. But he hasn’t practiced yet."
"We've had a good couple of days of practice," Oats said. "It's gonna be something a little different than facing anybody else we've faced all year. Zach Edey presents real problems. And he's big. He's pretty much impossible to guard one-on-one."

If you invest everything in defending Edey, you will ultimately lose. It doesn't matter if he scores 35 points and 15 rebounds. As long as you can perfectly defend the remaining four players on the floor, you can win the game.

In the Yea Alabama interview yesterday Coach Oats stressed the importance of NIL not only for recruiting but also for retaining players. He used Mark as an example of someone with another year of eligibility next year that he wouldn’t want to lose to another team if he doesn’t make the NBA.

Here’s the Bama Central recording of the press conference - not the best audio but not the worst. I’ll post the UA version if/when they release it

Heard an interesting interview about certain coaches wanting to play so many games in November, few games in December and then gear up for conference play in Jan.
Has Nate ever said what his philosophy is about Nov/Dec games.
Thanks.

If you play Edey 1 on 1 the whole game, you will lose. He will have 50 points and you will be guarding him with your 2nd string #4 because all your #5s and your starting #4 will be fouled out.
If we had Bediako, that might be a different story. None of our guys can guard Edey 1 on 1. Purdue’s PPP would be 1.5 or more if we tried that for more than a possession here or there to try and stop their hot shooter from burying us with threes.
We need their shooters cold and our shooters hot, and that’s really our only chance beyond trying desperately to get Edey in foul trouble. Not sure we have anyone that could do that to him, especially with Grant hobbled.

We held him to 15 points and 9 rebounds. He got in foul trouble early in the first half.
Granted, it was an exhibition but he did not play like a dominant Center.

He was the unanimous National Player of the year by 6 different awards, including the Wooden Award last year. I don’t know if I’d be quoting an “exhibition” performance as a data point to be extrapolated.
Sam Walter’s hit 7 3s against TCU in the “exhibition” and now he can’t see the floor against a decent team because his defense makes him unplayable. We lost by like 50 last year to TCU in an exhibition and ended up the overall #1 seed in NCAAT. Exhibitions mean absolutely nothing.

Is it weird im not nervous about the game tomorrow??
Purdue’s already beaten a trio of top teams, but their guards don’t scare me.
I should be expecting us to probably lose a lot more than I actually am
