Who are our top 5 at WR? Is it Germi, Law, Kobe, and the two TFs? Anybody else on the radar? Any Manny Henderson news?
Law and Germi are playing. Last spot has a bunch of competition but I feel like we will rotate about 5-6 guys.

I get the feeling that Law could end up being one of the more important players on offense. Last offensive staff did a poor job of getting him the ball in 2023 despite clearly having juice.
You can't teach speed but he also has a compact but stout build, so he ought to be tough over the middle in the slot.

From a 49er fan who sees a lot of Deebo Samuel every year, the comparisons to him seem spot on to me.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Law line up in the backfield with Jam and actually get some straight carries among other wrinkles this year.
Also, his called back TD in the Iron Bowl really killed me. He looked like a monster running through the Auburn D.

quote:i like how wommack is talking about it being more aggressive and attacking. while we clearly have been great on D for the last 15 years generally, i feel like we kinda got into a rut where everything was too complex and reactive instead of trying to impose defensive will on the opposing offense. we still havent seen this version of the D on the field but im liking what im hearing about the intention
Lots of attitude on defense, I think the scheme is more suitable for our age on defense in certain areas especially secondary. Hoping that holds.

Sounds like the scheme is more like Carl Torbush in 2001-2002.
Got mixed feelings about the hyper-aggressive defensive coordinators like Torbush, Joe Lee Dunn, Todd Grantham, Manny Diaz, etc.
I think there is a reason guys from the Belichick/Saban coaching tree consistently field quality defenses. It comes from the fact that they are not actually very aggressive. They're tactical with blitzes and well scouted on how to deploy their blitzes against an offense. Frankly, the best way to fell a Nick Saban defense was almost always about making hard throws deep, outside the hashes, against man coverage. Essentially, just trying to win 50/50 balls and hope for the best. That is also why only on rare occasions a chump college quarterback with no pro potential beat a Nick Saban defense...and that was usually because the offense choked controlling a game late or just burying the team with turnovers.

Can’t say I disagree. The 50/50 ball was our nemesis for years. Clemson was a big dealer of that. I think it comes down to risk/reward. With our level a talent we could unlock something special on defense with a fast attack.

I guess my issue with the coordinators who pray to an idol of Joe Lee Dunn
Todd Grantham straight up handed us that 2017 Mississippi State win. They could not cover Ridley but could not be bothered to do so then in a critical moment young Devonta Smith shook a guy hard on a slant route and walked into the endzone due to that aggression.

It was. But in more recent history, I feel like a swing pass or pass to the flat on third down was almost always sure to be a first down pick up (thank you, Golding). Our middle linebacker play really left a lot to be desired once Golding started coaching them. Pre-PG, our middle linebackers would kill people at, or behind, the LOS. From 2018 through 2022, we just had so many damn communication errors and leaving dudes wide arse open. That type of shite pissed me off way way more than the 50/50 deep balls.

I was just watching a practice video and noticed the tight ends hustling running some short out routes. I looked up the tight ends coach, "Bryan Ellis" its his first year coaching the TE position. He has coach every other position on offense and is a UAB grad.

Or more like the aggressive style of JEREMY PRUITT'S defenses!

That's great news!
My opinion..
I think it could really be a toss up at quarterback but Milroe will start. Ty is ready right now as well. I really think either one could get you to the SEC Championship and the National Title Game!
Running Backs will be a strength for us! I like every single one of them.
Offensive line:
RT- Proctor
RG- Booker
C- Brailsford
LG- Roberts
LT- Formby
I think this will be your starting offensive line when it's all said and done. They are extremely skilled!
TE- I like what I've seen from them and I expect a lot of those guys to contribute a lot more in this offense.
WR- Bernard, Law, Prentice, Adams, Odom, Williams, and Hampton are my top guys right now. I'm high on Henderson but I still think he has work to do.
OLB- I like the energy I've seen from them. I think Buck Robinson will have a great senior year. Koht & Russaw will be very good as well.
DE- I'm looking for someone to step up here. I will be paying very close attention to this particular position group. Got my eyes on James Smith! I think he's a DE in this defense if I'm not mistaken.
NT- it's all about Oatis, Smith, & Kennan! A young guy that I'm keeping my eye on is very underrated and that's Faga!
DB- Here is where somebody is going to have to take control and be that shut down corner. Domani Jackson could be that guy but I do know he got picked on by Colorado when he was healthy but hopefully with new techniques he can be better and more physical stopping the run. I also like Zabien Brown & DaShawn Jones! Bak is having to re-learn the position so give him some time. I love Smith as well. My sleeper pick to be a fan favorite from game one is Red Morgan. Pure instincts!
S- Saab & Moore of course. I think Bray Hubbard could be really good. Kirk Jr. will make a name for himself in due time. I haven't seen enough of Howard yet.
Just my opinion on a couple positions. I want to read everybody else's. Let's talk football people.

That'd be great. Pruitt operated the same basic Saban approach but he simplified some things and made it easier for guys to just get out there and execute at a high level.
From what I can tell about Wommack is he is aggressive when dictated but his mantra is more about holistic aggression. If you're playing read and react defense, your defenders need to be aggressive when they see the ball. That has nothing to do with calling the real world equivalent of madden's engage 8 blitz...it is about mentality.

He is an interesting prospect. Saban wanted him at safety so i gotta go with the goat and believe he has the tools. QB in high school, signed to play baseball, supposed to have good instincts and ball skills. Two time Mr Football in Mississippi 6A. Looked at going to the Naval Academy too.
Havent heard much about him since he has been on campus. But there is a path to playing time for somebody like him. Listed at 6'2 195 on the roster, but not sure if that is updated. He should be on a lot of special teams units.

Kendrick Law is most definitely going to be a focal point of the offense.
Some coaches are quick to toss names around and some aren’t.
Saban was one who rarely did, but when he did we knew that player was going to be special.
DeBoer is similar in this regard. He specifically mentioned Law’s speed and DeBoer is no fool. He’s the opposite in fact. He knows how to win and what it takes to win.
Law will be all over the field.

I also do not want to insinuate that we had a bunch of “me me me” guys last season, but I do think our coaching staff was trying to appease a handful of guys. I honestly think our OC was in over his head trying to deal with all of our talent. A lot of the “me me me” guys left after Saban retired, so hopefully we will have guys who buy into what DeBoer is doing and wait their turn.
