Hitt & Holman have looked pretty dang good. In his first collegiate inning, Frosh Luke Holman retired the side in order, including a strikeout to end it. Huge boost for our pitching. RTR. And of course I just jinxed him …

announcers speculated on mid week starters and said they had no clue.
should be plenty of options as we did not have to roll out a lot of relief pitchers this weekend

Had you told me 3-0 to begin the season I wouldn’t have believed it. Roll Tide.

I mean it was Xavier but they were preseason picked to finish 2nd in the Big East so I’ll definitely take it. Lots of good takeaways from this weekend.

Crimson Tide Completes Weekend Sweep of Xavier with 9-4 Win on Sunday
Alabama applied consistent pressure on offense, scoring in five of the eight innings to secure the win
Alabama baseball completed the series sweep of Xavier with a 9-4 win on Sunday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The season-opening series sweep was the Tide's fourth in five seasons under head coach Brad Bohannon.
The Crimson Tide grabbed the lead early on Sunday afternoon and never looked back. Alabama scored one run in the second before putting up a four-spot in the bottom of the third to put the game out of reach. The Tide then added one in the fifth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth, scoring in five of the eight frames on Sunday on the way to the win.
All nine starters reached base safely in the game with eight of the nine recording at least one hit. Seven of the Tide's nine starters contributed at least one run while six posted an RBI by day's end. Leading the offensive charge was Tommy Seidl. The Harvard transfer finished 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, two runs and a walk. Jim Jarvis matched Seidl for the team-high in runs with two, part of his 2-for-4 showing that included an RBI. William Hamiter also contributed a multi-hit effort, going 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and adding one run.
Grayson Hitt (1-0) earned the win for Alabama in his first career weekend start. The sophomore tossed a career-high tying 4.0 scoreless innings while striking out a career-best six batters.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"I'm really glad to get a series sweep over a very good Xavier team. We played progressively better over the course of the weekend, but to be able to win three games and make as many mistakes as we did, ones that we can learn from, is really a positive. Offensively today we had a lot of production up and down the lineup. There was a point in which we put together 10 consecutive quality at-bats and we scored in five of the eight innings. After we put the four-spot up in the third, we maintained our focus, didn't let our foot off the gas and ended up scoring in three of the next five innings after that. I thought that was a real positive sign of our maturity and mentality."

quote:I thought the same thing, especially with the hype he had coming in.
Is Hayslip hurt or just not gonna play much? I guess I just naively expected to see him in some capacity 2 games in.
Interested to see Ben Hess on the mound as well once he gets healthy. If the rumors are true, he could be one of the best arms to come through here in a while with Prielipp.
All in all, good start to the season. Plenty to cleanup, but we got a sweep against a really solid upperclassmen-laden team. Winning the first two close ones will help our confidence moving forward, especially with how game 1 transpired. This next weekend will really teach us how able this team will be to competing in the the especially tough SEC this year.

Tamez hit the crap out of the ball this weekend.

I know it’s really early and it most certainly won’t last, but it’s surreal to look up at the scoreboard and see these .400, .500, .600 batting averages. 7 players at or above .300.

Fan, any word on Hayslip? Just kind of strange not to see any of a kid who was legitimately a top 10 incoming freshman in America.

No buzz that I heard in the stadium. Not sure if something was up or if Coach Bo decided to go with a ‘veteran’ lineup in the outfield for opening weekend (Hamiter, Seidl, Rose, Pinckney and Diodati). I thought he might have least been the DH at some point, but they went with Hodo when it wasn’t Diodati. I’m sure now that we’re asking about it, Coach Bo will be asked sometime soon.

Ready to Go: The Journey of Alabama Pitcher Dylan Ray (SI)
After undergoing Tommy John surgery during the preseason of his freshman year and the year of rehab that followed, Ray finally took to the mound last Saturday for the Crimson Tide.

Good stuff, thanks for the post. S/O to Hamiter who had a great series, and his double yesterday came after an 11 pitch battle
