I used to tell people that CNS could never reach the level of admiration of CPB because Coach Bryant was Bama, Coach Saban was a mercenary. Okay, I was wrong.

LOL - it was going to take sustained success and being here for a while for Saban to get to that same sort of place. I'll be honest, I'm not sure many of us expected EITHER thing when he first got here.

Saban has definitely softened and genuinely seems to love Alabama and his players. It's nice to see him slow down enough to savor his success and enjoy his job a bit more. That said, I don't want to see him get too soft and sentimental yet---his manic drive is what made him the GOAT. Let's hope that stays alive in him for at least a few more years. This last recruiting cycle has me slightly nervous the drive and focus may not be what it was, although a sick 2019 class is all it will take to erase those doubts.

I was slightly concerned about that a few years ago but the last 2-3 have made it clear that he isn't slowing down a bit.

The fact that he looked at a Top 6 or whatever class, before it was done, and was so sick about it he basically decided he had to blow up a staff...........AFTER WINNING A NATIONAL TITLE........tells me all I need to know about his commitment to "the standard" and not just tricking himself into thinking we were good so we'll be good.

I think the early singing period smacked the staff in the face sort of like being in the first playoffs did in 2014. We adjusted pretty damn well after that....

I suspect you're right. But as the old saying goes, the proof will be in the pudding. The 2019 class will either "restore order" on the recruiting front or let us know Saban may be slipping. I expect a dominant 2019 class that will finish #1 or #2.

Saban asked Tua after the NC game how he could possibly take a sack in that situation... Tua responded “we needed more room to pass” Saban said “That shite ain’t funny”
First off, that's hilarious.

Second, that plus the way he put his arm around Saban after the horrible pick shows me he's the most confident kid walking planet earth.

I am 67 and I can tell you walking thru that door that says "60 year line forms here" does change your prospective a little. It's like holding up those fingers for the 4th Qtr.

He is routinely asked by High School Juniors “will I play as a Freshman”?

Just... just.... screw that noise 100%. If you ask me this, not only will I tell you no, but now, I don't want you. We don't NEED players that want to be handed anything. We want players who will put blood, sweat and tears in the summer, all with the goal and honor of wearing the crimson and white.
