Said he spoke to 37 High School Juniors on the phone today
Also told a story about how he didn’t go to LSU interview back in the day but sent his wife instead.
Said we have two QBs.... one that needs to work on passing and one that needs to work on protecting the ball.
Saban asked Tua after the NC game how he could possibly take a sack in that situation... Tua responded “we needed more room to pass” Saban said “That shite ain’t funny”

Did Saban say anything about teams negative recruiting against us?

No but he feels like a lot of teams pressured kids into signing early and that it hurt the players opportunities to receive others offers from schools such as Alabama

I wonder how he is going to adjust

The early signing period is such a shite show.

Said that we were a little unprepared for the amount of “competition” during this final signing period. Also that losing Pruitt hurt of course. Plans to try to close things out earlier in the future I believe. Said we are currently recruiting 3 classes at a time. He is routinely asked by High School Juniors “will I play as a Freshman”? It’s unreal how recruiting has evolved and what the coaches have to handle now.

All these recruiting sites and ESPN are turning these kids into ego monsters

Saban wouldn't have told the story if he didn't think it was funny.

Laughed hard at this. Tua has brass balls, for sure.

What else did he say? Surely there were a couple more decent nuggets you can share.

He laughed as he told the Tua story ... said Tua made the comment to him with his trademark smile.
He also told a story about how twice a year he takes an entire day and meets with every single player on the team 1 on 1 for 15 minutes or so. He said he uses the time to discuss grades, areas for improvement, praise, and just conversation. He said the thing he learned from the experience is what great people are on the team ... not players... but great people. It was kind of an emotional moment and Saban genuinely seemed like a loving father talking about his children.

I'll be honest, seeing THIS Saban the last 4-5 years has really made........I dunno how to even say it.......my feelings I guess, towards Saban, grow quite a bit.
At the start he was the hired mercenary brought in to take us back to the top. But ever since, probably the tornado I guess, it's really moved far past that. I love seeing him talk about the players like that, and he does quite a bit more of it lately.

He really has changed. I dread the day he retires

I used to tell people that CNS could never reach the level of admiration of CPB because Coach Bryant was Bama, Coach Saban was a mercenary. Okay, I was wrong.
