What are y'alls thoughts on that open field miss tackle on 28? The one where the ball was thrown behind the line of scrimmage and should have been a tackle for a loss. It looked like to me that its his technique that is wrong. He is trying to get there fast but not breaking down when he does get there.

He’s not a heat seeking missile. He’s more of an unpolished athlete. Can get in to the backfield, but may be too reliant on high-tackling as well as gang-tackling.

We were so excited about Wilson when he was blowing people up on special teams a couple years ago, similar to Reuben Foster. Just hasn't translated like we hoped.

The Mack that everyone saw as a Fr and So, was greatly hampered by the need to make D calls and it completely changed his game (JMHO) but if he stays and gets that together or doesnt have to worry with it, he should / could get back to being more of a weapon.

Wondering if any of the new guys (who played mostly ST) could be a signal caller?

Hoping Mack goes if he gets a great grade; but I really think he could better himself if he stays (but will take a better coaching (here again JMHO) job by the Ilb coach)

Who else thinks Mack should let Dylan make calls? Dylan wasn’t great but I thought he was solid and seems like he plays a more controlled game. Mack’s strength is playing fast and physical but making calls seems to make him slow down and a step slow

Moses is way faster than Wilson. Dude runs like a 4.5 as a linebacker. He was chasing down WRs from behind this year. You have potentially the same problem with him. If you make him slow down a step, you've taken away his best asset, his speed. He is not a thumper.

I agree I guess I meant he seems smarter like football smart and could handle it better. Who knows but Mack as a sophomore was a stud we need that guy back

It was 16-14 Alabama, right?

I genuinely thought it was the turning point in the game.

The staff literally sent him on run/pass blitzes for the first 4 games because he didn't know the defense well enough to make the necessary coverage or run fill reads. He improved over the course of the season, but Moses being unready was a huge part of the ILB struggles as a whole because you had a first time signal caller clearly struggling to do that job next to another ILB who the staff didn't trust to do his job.

You’re also comparing a kid who wasn’t a naturally linebacker who didn’t have a veteran to learn from to Mack who had all those things...signing him we all knew Dylan needed time because he was an athlete trying to play LB, our lack of depth caused us to play him probably a year early (hello Ben Davis)

Chance it could be a poor coaching job

Mack has been hurt. He isn't the seasoned vet that normally occupies that role.

Hurt? Has he been having undisclosed problems with his foot again?

I'm talking last year how he got hurt in camp before playing until he LSU game and going down with a worsening of that injury.

He started 2 career games before this season where he was now the signal caller and next to an athlete who hasn't learned the position yet. Mack makes himself a Target for criticism, but this was an awful situation for inexperienced linebacker to step into the with expectation of all of the great bama linebackers upon him

this and the blown coverage by Thompson were just huge...I think both were on 3rd downs too and would have gotten the defense off the field

I STILL don't know what Thompson was doing on that first-quarter touchdown. It seemed he just fell asleep watching the play. I don't think he moved at all for about three seconds, until the receiver ran by him.

He has a tendency to do that. He did it in the seccg vs Nauta? On a big throw in the third.

As someone mentioned I'm wondering if it's a coaching or lack thereof issue.

Signal caller or not, you HAVE to make that tackle and drop the ball carrier for a loss. I don't care if you are a signal calling linebacker or a fricking cornerback that weighs 160lbs. You have to at least disrupt the play, Mack completely whiffed. Whiffed isn't even the right word, he ran past the ball carrier and did not even attempt to tackle him. Completely unacceptable and I haven't seen many, if any, Bama starting MLBs do that in the past 10 years.

I was talking about this season as a whole and how nightmarish it has been for our ILB's performance wise and OlB's health wise.

Agreed, I had very high expectations of them coming into the season. I don't know if it can, but I really would love to see the light turn on for both 30 and 32 because from an athletic standpoint, they could be one of our best duos in a while. They just don't seem to have the instincts of a Mosley, SDH or Reuben Foster (not that many do).
