The DC quandary (maybe only in my mind)

I suspect that Saban views Golding as his next Kirby with the added plus of Golding having a little bit of Pruitt added to his DNA.
Saban understood what Kirby could become but he was not quite ready. Kevin Steele was the pilot boat in the harbor until Kirby was ready to launch.
Saban had a pretty good idea what he had with Pruitt but Pruitt thought he was ready to fly before Saban did. Kirby was the pilot boat for Pruitt but Pruitt did not have the maturity and broke the pilot lines to do it his way. By the time Kirby left, Pruitt was ready to come back home.
Tosh was working under Pruitt but was not yet ready to take the lead when Pruitt moved on. Whether he could become that guy or not had not yet been determined. Saban had two choices. Take a chance on Tosh and see if he could make the jump or lose him. There was no pilot boat to help so Saban brought in a young tug boat to help.
Golding showed to have more potential to become Saban's next guy. Tosh did not have what it takes (at least not yet). Golding is Saban's guy but he is still not ready. The complexity of Saban's system takes both the players and the coaches multiple seasons to learn and then master. Saban is looking for the pilot boat to help Golding clear the harbor. That pilot boat only needs a 1 or two year lease... just like Steele at the beginning of Saban's time in Tuscaloosa.
Two times, Pruitt left Alabama a year or two before Saban's schedule and planning said it should happen. Saban's has not lost his touch. Saban is attempting to force his schedule and staff back into sync.

After reading all of this crap...the combination of Sal for one year and Vinnie could be the Pilot/Tug combo to get Golding ready to go. That could also make Vinnie the next Kirby in the pipeline.
Sal knows the system and coaching the front end. Golding is better suited for the back end. Vinnie knows the back end and will likely be a very good coach and recruiter in time.

Some of us are old enough to remember Sal Sunseri's previous gig as a DC. No thanks.

Sal Sunseri has never been DC at Bama. He was DC at Tennessee and it was a disaster. However, not sure how much of that is on him as opposed to Derek Dooley and the all around dysfunction of the Tennessee program at that time.

If this happened, Sal would be at most OLB and co-DC. Golding would be the DC and Sal would be the hand holder.

so basically, Pruitt was a flying boat. Cool.

You lost me at 'pilot boat', and I need to know who's the seaplane and who's the water horse.

If you are right then maybe Saban retires before the next guy is truly ready so maybe he should jump straight to guy that is already there. I don't know if Golding is ready but if he's not then let's go get somebody that is.

A pilot boat guides you into and out of port. A tug pushes you up and down the river.
Water Horse - mythical creature. We have had too many of those who turned out to be little more than a hippopotamus.
As for the seaplane, I would prefer an aircraft carrier and a squadron of fighter jets and A-10's.

Vol fans have never been hesitant to unload on Dooley, but they pretty universally agree that Sunseri was horrible as DC...an example of a guy who's a good position coach, but not cut out to be a coordinator.
It's not Dooley's fault he hasn't been a DC since.

Sal only got one year, though. A defense doesn't make its true mark until year 2 imo.

Sunseri made his mark in year 1. Unfortunately, it looked like the ones in my kid's briefs.
Bama fans defend him because he was a good position coach and because of Vinnie. Neither of those two points are relevant. He did a piss poor job. That's why he got fired. Again, no one else has given him a second chance. Neither should we.

One thing is very evident, Golding did a piss poor job as a inside LB coach. Mama should be able to do much better for a DC.

How are bama fans so stupid?

This reads like the scene direction in a gay orgy porno for dudes with a euphemism fetish.
