It's also only 23 miles different from what we used to do for games that were played at Legion Field. The team would leave Tuscaloosa day of, play the game at Legion Field, and ride back after the game was over.

I'm not going to the game because I don't want to get that early on a Saturday. Hope the guys get a good nights sleep.

That's not the way I remember it. One used to often be able to catch the team at the Cotton Patch Restaurant at a motel on the Bessemer Super Highway on mornings of games at Legion Field.

These young men are 18-21yrs old and probably in the best shape of their lives.

They probably could slam beers all night, have sex with their girlfriends two or three times, take a power nap afterwards get up the morning of the game and ride motorcycles to Starkville and still kick msu arse.

These boys ain’t made of tissue paper. Tough as pig iron more than likely. Hell when I was that age I was never tired… lol

You do know they stay at a hotel on Friday nights for home games.

Per WJOX today, the team does not get a police escort when they stay in a hotel in Columbus on Friday nights and drive to Starkville on Saturday.

That seems odd.

It's well known information. They stay at hotel capstone on Fridays before home games.

Lot of sec teams that travels to Mississippi tend to stay in bham or t town.

No difference from ole miss and miss state.. 76 miles

I'm surprised to see lot of folks not knowing this stuff.

I remember visiting Tuscaloosa one year as a high school student and staying in the capstone. They give badges to the players around their necks and basically hold them in the building. Pretty sure they used the ballrooms or equivalent for some pregame prep as well in the evening.

Florida 2010 if I remember right

This board on Monday afternoon if we lose…..

“Paw, this guy Coach DeBore is so soft it bleeds over onto our team. Our team can’t stay at a Motel 6 in Starkville.

We need a coach like Sumralls that is tough like Saban. DeBoreeeee ain’t it”

The Cotton Patch was in Greene Country right off of the interstate.

I heard on a podcast a couple of days ago that Saban did this in 2023 when we played MSU in Starkville. He kept the team in Tuscaloosa, drove them to Starkville the day of the game, whooped their arse to the tune of 40-17, and then drove them back to Tuscaloosa that evening.

I read this as that Saban got tired of his team being disrupted by the locals in the Golden Triangle when staying in a Columbus hotel. DeBoer asked around on how it was done in the past and went with the 2023 model.

Ppl like me don’t really keep up with that kinda info I guess. Theres a ton of stuff I don’t know when it comes to organizing a football team.

Just show me the baby on the field, I don’t care about the labor pains in practice. I got to many hobbies I guess, lol

I don’t think it’s going to matter either way. As a former coach, though, I can tell you that anything you do that is unusual will be criticized if it doesn’t work.

If the team looks like shite in the first quarter, people will say, “That damn DeBoer dragged the players out of bed at 4:00 am to sprint to MSU. They weren’t ready to play.”

My opinion: If he thinks it’s significantly better to stay in Tuscaloosa, then stay in Tuscaloosa no matter what. But if it’s “six one way, half a dozen the other,” then stay in Miss.

Coach explained that there are no facilities to house them in the area that he felt comfortable using. Columbus would have had some but that only puts you an hour closer. These are young guys not 65 year old social security workers. And from what I have read NS would do this often when playing MSU.
