(serious) why is Slade starting?

He is the least explosive athlete on a team with few explosive offensive athletes, he never gets separation, is easily tackled, and dropped a wide open TD standing still today.

Williams is the only explosive guy Bama has.

That drop was absolutely unforgivable.

We had 10 dropped passes and Slade was 1. He is far from the problem but people who know nothing about the game keep insisting it’s him.

I’ve been on Slade’s side until today. That was absolutely unacceptable and could easily have cost us the game. Jojo needs to start taking more of his snaps, period.

Blocking I guess? I guess the other guys behind him are worse?
He’s not an NFL caliber guy but I thought he’d at least be in the category of guys like Mullaney and Hanks. He seems to be in the tier of Foster and Dieter. Ironically both in the NFL but point is, he isn’t doing much.

And another contested one that was well placed
He must be a practice champion, team leader. Seems like a good kid, and I admire all of their efforts, but, he does not seem the top talent.
That said, being bought in, leadership and work ethic are heavy factors for Saban's lineup decisions

His drop was easily the worst one though. He turned around, was all alone, and had the ball right in his hands. The rest of the drops were receivers who were pretty well covered.

He’s the no.3 WR so obviously not but he isn’t the slightest bit explosive or reliable. Hopefully one of the younger guys can learn enough (or get better at blocking) to take over for him at some point.

So could any of the other dropped passes. But let’s focus on one thing and blame it on him.

Yeah, he isn't the problem, but the overall lack of big play threat our WR corps presents is a huge issue for our offense.

Was a bad drop, it happens. We won.
Like standard Bama fashion everyone wants the “young” guy to start. They aren’t starting for a reason. JoJo seems talented but he is raw. He will get there.

I mean… one of the worst TD drops I’ve ever seen. Only one I can remember worse was that AU receiver against Ole Miss a really long time ago that cost them the game.
It’s the kind of drop that can ruin a game from someone who has to be dependable in order to maintain his spot on the field. We won, so it’s moot, but I’m not sure why it’s surprising to you that people are bothered by that drop.

Yep, Slade is mediocre at best but nobody else is looking dominant either. None of our guys are catching short throws and turning them into huge gains like we’ve had the last few years. Heck, our WR core looks downright pedestrian. What you expect to see at OM or AU. Very concerning.

Correct the entire group doesn’t look like the group of 1st rounders we’ve had. Maybe someone will emerge.

Yeah he's part of the problem.
Problem being we only have one talent that could considered elite making catches. J.Williams.

Or maybe--and hear me out--it's extremely rare to have WR group with four 1st rounders in it.
Maybe it's unreasonable, even at Alabama, to expect a pro-bowl player at every spot in the WR lineup.
Maybe, just maybe, we aren't as elite as we were the past couple of years.

I know. That’s what I speculated too with the blocking and offensive knowledge aspect. I just think Slade has a really low ceiling.

I believe both have two and Slade basically is an undersized wide out running what looks like a 4.7 out there.
I don't even get why he is defended on here when if this was some other player he would be burned at the stake.

His ceiling is lower than some of our young talent my assumption like many is they just aren’t ready yet.
