I'm serious when I say frick field goals. Just go for it or punt it if we're in punting distance. Sure maybe we don't convert, but we're likely gonna miss the field goal anyway so why not at this point? I get Saban wants to show Griffith he still believes in him, and I hope that if Griffith gets to kick he'll turn his career around, but his confidence isn't worth risking a title over. Sure we can get in with one loss, but I'd rather not get behind. The schedule is tough. All jokes aside Auburn didn't care about playing JSU and JSU played out of their minds. Auburn will be a different team by the time the Iron Bowl comes around. LSU is looking good, State has Dak and that game is in Starkville where we've been sloppy in for a while now. A&M is looking better than expected. The Viles lost to Oklahoma, but they're still talented. Too many potential losses to frick around with the kicking game, IMO.
The same could be argued for my "go for it on 4th down" approach, though.

With our inconsistent offense we can't really say that. In these big games we are damn sure going to need field goals.
We need to find a guy who can at least make one from 40 and inside. At least that will help us gameplan, strategize and understand our down and distance when we're on that side of the field.
Right now we look completely lost. Remind me of when Cade missed and we just kept going for it on 4th down and failing.

I agree. If he misses his next attempt I say just go for it or punt from now on assuming there are no other decent options at kicker (Rayborn, Scott...)

It's such a dumb problem to have, especially when the kid's back issue supposedly flared up last season. Amazing that we didn't seek out a credible backup plan at Kicker during the offseason.

If Texas Tech once found a kicker during a halftime kicking contest and Texas A&M could get a former MLS 1st Rd draft pick to be their's, I'm sure Bama can find somone on the streets to kick.

I feel like years from now people will forget it was Adam who missed it and blame Cade for it.
No one should blame Griffith for missing from 57 as a true freshman coming in it that scenario. Cade missed easily makeable kicks. Blame is on Cade and the coaching staff for not pulling Cade earlier.

I would never boo a player. However, I can see why some did after the missed fg. No excuse for it during pregame though.
Special teams is always a thorn in the side though and that does lie with the coaching staff. It's not like it's a hiccup during Saban's tenure. I cannot understand why it's almost always underwhelming in some aspect. Be it FG's, returns or whatnot.

Why even give a scholarship for a kicker ? Just invite a bunch of HS kickers to tryout as walkons. Shelly is the best we have had and he was a walk on

Coincidentally I wonder if we can get Julio Jones (Jew-leo Hones) on the team? He's just some guy who lives in Atlanta...

Seriously, should Bama fans cheer when he misses another 24 yarder?
Is that our only other option? I understand groaning and complaining to friends or on a forum, but booing a kid doesn't solve shite, it just causes more problems for him upstairs.

Of course his confidence is going to be affected regardless. But WTH does booing him solve? You know, besides proving that we have a bunch of assclowns for fans... I'm not saying people should cheer when his name is called or sunshine pump his twitter feed, but please refrain from booing our own damn players. That's just classless bullshite that will only make things worse.

I don't know how to say this without sensitive people getting upset over it, but I'll start off by saying I do feel bad for Griffith because of his background. That looked rough, he made it through, and that's great.
I'll also add that problems upstairs are no joke.
However, you someone can't handle pressure they really shouldn't come to Alabama. It has been this way for a long time. If you earn it, the fans give you more love than any other fan base. But you'll be held accountable if you don't earn it. And the high expectations aren't the fans being fans. Saban's whole attitude is never be satisfied. Bear Bryant told Freshman that he expects nothing less than a National Championship.
It's just football, it ultimately doesn't matter. But if boos really upset a guy that much he probably shouldn't be at Bama. Not because it hurts Bama to have him, but because it'll only hurt him more. It's never gonna change, and it really shouldn't either. If less than the best is accepted, well, you get less than the best. I wouldn't want my son to have an A one semester and a C the next.
I'm sure some will take what I'm saying as malicious or will be upset by it, maybe I could've worded it better to make the point clearer, I don't know. But if it's really gonna bother him he should probably leave the team after this season because I don't want him to get depressed over football. Especially considering he's been through way worse in his childhood.
I don't think the boos are people being unappreciative. Sure there are some out there who probably curse the guy's name, but I really think it just boils down to a constant reminder to do better. I haven't booed him, though I usually flip my shite over bad plays. That said it normally subsides after 30 seconds.

I actually agree with most of what you said, but do you honestly believe our boos are meant as "a reminder to do better"? That seems like a bit of a homeristic interpretation of our fan base's real meaning at best.
I agree that he probably needs to transfer if he doesn't turn it around. It takes a kicker with an untouchable confidence to do well at Alabama. Hell, as much as I love Alabama, I wouldn't come here if I was a kicker. This is where top-rated HS kickers go to get their confidence shot.

Let me fill you in on our backup, Gunner Rayborn. He kicks a super low ball and has approx no leg. Kid scares the shite out of me honestly. So I dunno at this point. Oliver Twist better get his mind right.

Why didn't Saban look for a backup in the 2015 class? Was Griffith showing promise in practice?

I wouldn't be surprised to see JK Scott trot out there if the struggles continue. Didn't he do spot duty on kickoffs a few times last year? And I know he kicked in high school. I'm sure they'd rather not risk him anymore than they have to given his all-world punting potential. But he may be less intimidated by the spotlight than our current backup.

Thank you.
Plus, 75% of our fans will keep bitching about him even if he goes 18 of 20 the rest of the way.
