This article quotes what Saban said about former assistants and negative recruiting:

Saban: Coaching turnover 'hurt us in recruiting a little bit' (BamaOnLine)

Thanks for the link.

But holy shite, I must've seen a dozen ads on that site. BamaOnLine has gotten crazy. The fact that it's a pay site makes it even crazier.

I’m the one he was talking about. I’ll do better.

He's most likely talking about Kirby, but don't be surprised if he's talking about Jimbo, or possibly even both of them.

Pruitt is the dark horse. He's fricking cutthroat, and doesn't mind burning bridges, but I think he wants Saban's recommendation for the Bama job one day. He might not cross that line.

Isn't Lane a former and current HC and someone who would definitely negative recruit against Saban if he could.

Kiffin is at FAU. He's not competing with us for recruits.

Because he was thinking about leaving Bama after playing well in the NC game. It has to be pretty much a starter that would complain about 15 plays and on offense. I will go with #22 as well. His injury may have slowed him down so far. The other 3 backs are on looking good then again we're talking about L'Ville.

Put a circle around #22.

No, he was talking about a current head coach. It was very clear who he was talking about.

Says a lot about Kirby's character.

He couldn't possibly be talking about Muschamp, Kiffin, Fisher, Dantonio or the most obvious choice of Pruett?

I haven't read the transcript, but if he said it like the OP described, then it probably wasn't Smart. He definitely isn't "insignificant" right now.

You couldn't possibly admit to yourself that the most obvious is Kirby?

It very well could be Kirby. I never said it wasn't

I do know between the two personalities that Pruitt is a more likely candidate and would need to use negative recruiting more right now than Kirby to help him build up his program for the the shambles that it's been in for years.

Pruitt did it to Saban with that DL that ended up at FSU when he took that job.

Help a poster out then and show me where in the article that was linked that points to Kirby. Or what was said in the interview that it was obviously Kirby.

Pruitt is pretty insignificant and it fits his personality. This is the same guy that started fights with our offensive staff and showed up drunk at Richts house to fight him. Pruitt gives no fricks about any of his relationships with anybody

Numerous Bama mods have been talking for over a year about Kirby negative recruiting against Bama and Saban being pissed.

This why it appears obvious to many Bama fans.

Bama insiders? If so I could see why you would think it's him then. Pruitt just has a much more FU type of personality. Although, as another poster pointed out it would be dangerous for him to do that to Bama since he will likely want to come home when Saban retires in 10+ years.
