At some point here Alabama will be attractive simply by having an average roster, money to spend, great facilities, and playing time to offer.
The path to that reality is a dark one.

It would effectively look like Auburn of the last 5 years. I think I’ll pass on that.

Understanding a lot can change, this is more of an exercise of seeing where we are, and where the glaring holes are that will need to be addressed in the spring portal

So you know our roster won’t look the same but know it’s going to be a bumpy ride in year one?

I realize we have no idea how many more guys leave and what transfers come over. Assuming things just stayed as is the secondary is going to be shaky at best. And, if someone got injured, look out. We would look like the Eagles the other day against Tampa Bay.

I'm being realistic. Big name players aren't nearly as active in the spring portal, so pulling in players that are equal to the ones we're losing in April is going to be nearly impossible.
We'll have a better idea after spring ball, but I imagine that our "composite talent" rating will be around 4-5 in the league and it's been a runaway #1 for years.
This is also the toughest schedule we've played in years.

And, Downs? He's no Minkah. Phuck them both. With a long, rusty rod. The University of Alabama is bigger than individual personalities.
We will excel with Coach DeBoer. I've watched the tape extensively. Trust me. The sky is the limit.
Nick retired at the right time. The steam was running out of the train. Now? We're pulling back into the station. Byrne hired the perfect man for the present challenge.

28 Folks hit the portal. 20 of them before Saban retired.
You can survive the 8 if you hang onto the 20 and you can survive the 20 if you hang onto the 8.
The depth guys left early, our best players are leaving now, and make no mistake about it there are multiple 5 star players on the roster that will end up in the portal in the next 3 weeks. We aren't bleeding, we're hemorrhaging

Did TE, CJ Dippre transfer or is he going pro?

I also know deboer took a team with less talent than we’ll have and made them 11-2 in his first year

That's fine, but he didn't play Georgia, Mizzou, @ LSU, @ OU, @ Wisconsin, @ Tennessee. They didn't play a single top 10 opponent all year, in fact.
I think the guy is a great coach, but I'm also not blind to the fact that this is a different type of meat grinder. Everyone in this league has said it for years, no need to pretend it isn't true now.

He also had the 26th best “talent” last year and beat multiple top ten teams and went to the playoff. I think he can do a lot more with less, so I’m going to wait to see what happens with the entire roster first, but that’s me

Our coaching staff is definitely at a different level from what it has been as far as on the field coaching and maybe even player development. Washington started a walk on at linebacker in the NC game.
It's going to need to be.
It's going to need to be.

lol they played Oregon twice
Posted on 1/17/24 at 1:24 pm to artompkins
Oregon wasn’t a top 10 team when they played them once in 2022, which is the year we were discussing

At this rate, we may be under 60 players on scholarship by this Fall. I hope I’m wrong.

Some of the guys who left for playing time before Saban's retirement probably would have found it more quickly if they'd stayed. Someone like Jake Pope is a clear example, probably a sure starter next year at Bama under these circumstances, who knows how long it will take at Georgia.

You forgot Dippre and Odom

Barn has a much more difficult task to get back to elite status.
BAMA had more talent and a better coach.
I'll take that roster. Roll Tide.

Odom has to be excited. This could be a godsend for him. Could take Niblacks spot.
Lord knows we criminally underuse tes. No matter who the qb is
