Woods plays in a 4-2-5. Was highly rated by PFF in 2023. DeBoer is familiar with him in the Pac 12. And Alabama needs guys at corner. Badly.

I imagine the kicker we got from the portal did not come if he was not offer a scholly. Probably got some NIL money since he won the aware last year.

DeBoer explicitly said we had 5 scholarships available in a post-spring camp interview. Some of these kids are not on athletic scholarship. There are ways to work the numbers for young men who are developmental depth if they qualify for other forms of aid and scholarships.

I heard every linebacker automatically gets a grad scholly with an assistantship.

I think the big thing is only 85 guys can contribute in a season. They count as an athletic scholarship if they participate even if they are on an academic scholarship or need based aid.

The Lee Roy Jordan scholarship for graduate linebacker excellence is the exception to the 85 rule.

Just a thought, but somebody is going to fund a preferred walk on NIL scholarship that is functionally equivalent to full cost of attendance at some point to help schools build depth under transfer free agency.

Do you know he's mediocre, have you watched many ASU games? Just assuming the guy is bad because he plays for a West Coast team that doesn't get much TV attention isn't probably a great way to evaluate. Especially considering current coaching staff has had to look at film on the guy for the past couple seasons and had a couple live looks at him. You'd think that they know what they are evaluating.

He plays in a similar system that our D will be running and has been a 2-3 year starter now. He also probably wants to move up from the late round draft projection by playing the SEC, so he'll be very motivated.

DeBoer misread this as we could sign 85 linebackers.

14 will have a long and difficult recovery. Not sure he will contribute any for the 24 team.

Perry sat under Saban. Must not have seen any daylight under DeBoer

Don’t want to sound like sour grapes but when we signed him, I said he reminded me of a Dee Liner type player . He was too small (6-3 260) for what Saban wanted to do on the DL

This is one I had a feeling would transfer. Think he was running with the third group during ADay.

Thought Perry was going to be an under the radar gem coming out of high school, and that he would be better suited to contribute in a 4-2-5 under Wommack than Saban’s 3-4 base, but I guess not. Best of luck to him going forward.

He needs to go to a smaller school and play all he wants. It’s the reality of it.

As for the ASU guy, I watched a few games, he isn’t bad at all, actually looked the best of the bunch. One thing our new coach can do or the DB coach is make some good DB’s.
