Has Battle learned his lesson and this segment of the search will be played close to the vest and as quiet as a church on Monday?

Seriously. That hunt was way too public from the start.

We shot our wad with Marshall. We can't blow it with a 10 and go home with a 5.

We're about to settle for Pitino or Prohm. I just know it.

It's reasonable to give Archie $1.5million, maybe 2. Marshall had a stronger track record hence the 4 being thrown about.

Has the detail of Miller's extension he signed last week been released? Salary? Buyout? etc.?

I think there are 3 types of candidates.

1. The proven coach who has consistently won at the highest levels.

2. The veteran who is consistently good.

3. The young guy who is showing promise, but doesn't have the long resume.

The 1's are almost impossible to attain for any school not named Kentucky, Duke, NC, etc. We could say Marshall is a 1 probably.

I don't want a 2. What you see is what you get. Their ceiling is met.

I think I'm ready for a 3. They're always a risk, but I think it's the only hope of getting a truly elite coach.

That said, what kind of system does Michael White run?

Wasn't Grant a 3 when we hired him?

Yes, and he turned into a 2.

Unless you think we can get izzo or coach K, what other option is there? If you're happy with being a bubble team, we should have kept Grant.

Grant turned into a veteran coach who is consistently good?

I guess your definition of good is different than mine.

32-34 over the last two seasons

"Good" is probably a stretch with him. But, he was average, and was certainly a "what you see is what you get" kind of coach.

I really hope we get someone with a personality this time who can get folks excited about hoops. That was definitely one glaring thing about Grant that I hated.

So now that I'm not melting as hard as last night- who are our options?

1- Archie
2- Jacobson
3- Mike White
4- Prohm??

What about a guy like Larry Eustacy at CSU? Proven winner everywhere he's been

Edit- not in support of Prohm just legit don't know other candidates

Archie would be my number 1 choice right now. I have a feeling we end up with Prohm or Pitino though.

Do we really think Prohm would be a bad hire? I thought he would have been a good choice before Marshall's name popped up.

ETA: If he's our "last resort" then I think we have a pretty high floor.

I personally don't think it would be a bad hire at all. I would just rather have Miller.

I'm all for Miller, but if you can QUIETLY tell Shaka Smart that while Texas' offer is "up to" $18M for 6 years, we are willing to go $24M for 6 years then I'd like to see that communication QUIETLY take place.

If no to Shaka, then get Miller QUIETLY. If he says no and we are down to the "B" candidates, then I say bring Prohm. He's a good coach and would do well here. While not a "homerun" he is a very solid hire who would work this job as passionately as a Coach K disciple would work the Duke job.

Prohm would be a shite hire. Weak RPI and poor tourney results
