If someone came to Bama and coached us to 19 NCAA appearances in 20 seasons like Barnes did at Texas, I'd be pretty dang happy.

@BlairKerkhoff - Rick Barnes avg record 1st 13 yrs at Texas 25-9, with 8 1st or 2nd Big 12 finishes. Last 4: 20-14 and no top 2 finishes

@JayBilas rick barnes Since 2008, UT's record by month against Top 25 teams:
November/December: 9-8
January: 7-16
February: 2-11
March: 2-11

Maybe a change would be good for him, but he's older and I wouldn't want to take a chance.

B'ham news is too busy cheerleading gay marriage to do any real reporting.

The fact that he's 60 would be a concern.

The irony of some of you wanting Barnes is that if he wins two tournament games, he likely still has a job and we likely lead for Marshall.

Texas has some fantastic recruits to choose from. I'd rather have him than Pitino, but I'd have to get turned down by a few others.

@GaryParrishCBS: Why is Texas attractive? Julius Randle, Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison, Myles Turner, Justise Winslow, etc. Tons of talent in the state.

What a shitty weekend; Jonathan Taylor, Geno Smith, Gregg Marshall.

You want irony? Wichita's leading candidate to replace Marshall wherever he goes? Steve Prohm.

Plenty of instate talent but like georgia can't get it. Hell, Wisconsin just lost a five star to Maryland.

I'll take this guy.

Hasn't Shaka already expressed interest in the job? Give it to him. He is a young, talented, energetic coach that runs an innovative system.

He did initially but when we made Marshall our #1, Shaka took himself off the table it seems.

I'll be honest, this search has the potential to be a huge disaster.

Maybe Shaka got his feelings hurt by not being the 1st option. But let's say in the end, we don't get Marshall. We call Shaka. What is Shaka getting paid right now? It can't be that much at his smaller school. If the job we offer at Bama doubles his current salary, is he going to say no because of pride? doubtful

I don't think Marshall is interested..if he was he would've been ready to hop on board. We need to turn all of our attention to shaka

Cecil's article basically said Alabama and Marshall will meet Monday. I don't know why they wouldn't have meet before then but who knows

quote:

And it's hard to figure out why Marshall and his agent wouldn't listen to all offers, even in the wake of Pat Forde's sources saying Alabama had been told "to back off." Pat is a fine reporter, but until a deal is done, there isn't much point in Marshall shooing away suitors.

It all comes back to the original point. Things are never more fluid than during a coaching search. There could be further developments, and Alabama may yet state its case at a Monday meeting.
