Barnett would be a grand slam HR hire.

The three names that I've seen mentioned are:
Brandon Jones (Missouri)
Chris Klenakis (Vandy)
Eric Mateos (Arkansas last year, but Silverfield didn't retain him, so took the OL job at Wisconsin in December, though his bio strangely seems to have gotten taken down)
Missouri just hired an assistant OL coach the other day that had been the OL coach at Northern IL. Either Jones or Klenakis would be considered home runs. Klenakis was with Chris Ault for a long time at Nevada (a legendary coach... highly underrated guy that pioneered the Pistol offense) and Petrino at Arkansas and Louisville. I've seen someone talk highly of Mateos. He's young, though (though that doesn't mean he isn't really good).
Who knows? That's just the scuttlebutt I'm seeing online.

Unlikely. A number of posters on this board are convinced that KDB is the worst coach ever because he's too loyal, he won't fire his friends, he refuses to hire good coaches, etc.
Gotta give them time to come up with new talking points.
Exactly.

I'm sorry but you're wrong. No one has said CKD is a terrible coach. I've said I have concerns about CKD being like Mike Shula did, ferocious loyalty to assistants who are really hurting you.
I get it that there will always be busts or misevaluations of recruits but you cannot tell me that literally every single offensive linemen on the roster are or were busts. Almost all of them are former 4-5 star recruits in HS. That's obviously no guarantee of them being successful but I refuse to believe that with all that talent, Bama should have such a horrible offensive line.
I'm sorry but it has to be the coaching and as such Kapilovic needed to go. Not sure why that's so hard to grasp.

They may haven’t used the word terrible, but multiple posters have said that he’s not a good coach and needs to go.

Amarillo,
You are wrong. Lot of posters said that during the time when Bama lost to Vandy and Sooners, and Georgia....

for the record, i dont think hes a "terrible" coach. but for me, the jury is still out on whether hes in over his head at bama

What is a "winning coach" look like from a W-L perspective?
Posted on 1/24/26 at 9:58 am to UASports23
I'd say it's relative to the program they are in charge of, although I'm not sure that even applies anymore given the money flooding into some historically shitty programs. Going 7-5 at Vandy used to be a big deal, but now it's probably the baseline of expectations.

I’ve been a critic of Deboer, but I want him to succeed. Overall, he definitely proved my expectations wrong after the FSU game. But still think there a lot of concerns. One of those being addressed in getting rid of Kap. Whether it was just not his players or the coaching, the OL was historically bad. There’s no reason the OL shouldn’t be very improved next year because both of the potential problems have been replaced. They’ve got to do their best to hire the best and there is a clear deficiency in a couple of departments. Not every hire Saban made was a home run. With the right hires I think we can be much improved.

Fixing the OL goes a long way to helping other issues on offense. It’s clearly a reset there with the total overhaul. I’m excited to see how it plays out.

Being better up front on the OL can only help. I don't know if it was scheme coaching personnel or some combination but I have never seen a team before that just could not run like we could not.
The longer the season went the worse it got. A change had to be made.

Exactly. Having an offensive line that is at least “pretty good”, not necessarily great would have made an absolutely gigantic difference in this past season.
Hopefully, we get a really good O line coach who can squeeze every last bit of ability out of what he has to work with.

This!! The OL is where the O starts. If you aren’t very good there, your overall O is going to struggle. As we all witnessed this passed season. We know the talent was there last year, so that leaves one person to blame. And now he is gone. Not dogging him, but he was just not a good OL coach.
