As a lifelong resident, it blows my mind the growth this town has seen and it isn't slowing down any time soon.

LOL. They have 6 years to do something to aid congestion. Finishing the northern loop should begin sometime this year and will probably help push folks into that part of the county.

Lifelong resident here as well. I love that we are getting it, but i just know they are going to tap Auburn with a lifetime contract to hire all of their engineers. This time is already ate up with them, now it's going to be much worse.

The University has a pretty solid engineering program right now too.
I'd imagine they will be looking to bring in people from all over though.

Yes UA has a fantastic Engineering program and actually is on par with a lot of big name "known" engineering schools as far as quality of students goes but we are having a tough time gaining a reputation here as a premier school. There is a big organization here that has partnerships with UA,AU, and UAH; however, when it comes time to promotions they only target AU grads. Frustrating to say the least

I’m originally from a small town near Anniston/Gadsden. I live in SC currently. Have twins that are seniors in HS. My kids are headed to MTSU in the fall, so I wanted to get back closer to home and be within a few hours of them.
I’m a Govt Employee, so Huntsville would be ideal place for me. I’d really prefer to live where I could be close to the mountains on the east side of town, but not sure if living out near Gurly would be wise.

Do you prefer to live in a more rural setting as in more land and less traffic? Or would you prefer more vibrant and closer neighbors? If the latter i would recommend Blossomwood/Mayfair/Monte Sano/ Green Mountain/Medical District/Hampton Cove. Just have to open the purse strings a little.
If you prefer the rural option. Owens Crossroads, Gurley is more to the East and South. Meridianville, Harvest are good options on the North End.

I appreciate all the info from everyone. Housing is significantly higher there than it is here in SC.
I’m leaning towards more rural more land, not as close to neighbors. Been in a tight neighborhood with a ridiculous HOA group since 2012 and ready to be released from that.
Just have to find something I can afford.

Lincoln County, TN is just across the state line and you can find plenty of good acreage for very reasonable prices. Just have a longer commute.

I hate depending on gov't for jobs. Rather 'bama be able to decide its own destiny w/o DC meddling.
