I would be surprised if many schools return any earlier than May, but my gut tells me most will not return this year especially if they have an effective online solution. Either that or you might see some modified calendars for summer school for K-11.

I can't see forced summer school being the solution given the constant tug-of-war our state is engaged in between pushing education and pushing tourism.

I was more talking nationally more than Alabama specifically (I live in the Northeast). Does the state board of education determine how late the school calendar can run in Alabama? I thought that was the schools and schools district. I know Vincent High School use to be year round. I figure if a school wants to extend the calendar I’m not sure anyone can stop them. However a lot schools around the country are just going to finish up on a normal timeline and offer Pass/ Fail grades to kids.

I would guess the the people on Gilligan's Island went thru the two rolls of TP on that boat pretty quickly but they had lots of leaves and the lagoon.
Gulligan made pipes for their steam heat, so I would imagine they could have made a bidet.

The issue first for schools was being able to forgo EOG testing at the end. Last week the Federal came out and said states could apply for the waiver to not have students take them. NC applied for the waiver already. The EOGs have monetary value attach for federal funding. In NC since we are in a state of emergency can waive the time requirement in class. NC students are suppose to be in class for 180 days and I assume many states are like that. Here that is being waived as well.

The issue for online are the rural areas and low income students who do not have access to the internet or a computer. Some of the school distracts already provided laptops for all HS students and are trying to do it now as well for lower grades, but again if you do not have internet not much they can do.

As of 9 am, UAB has at least 60 confirmed inpatient #COVID19 cases, w/ growing # of patients under investigation. More than half of those patients are on ventilators. This is further proof that community action is still needed to stop the spread. Let’s all do our part. #StayHome

Look, I like you Prevatt, I’m one of the few, but if you think that I’m going to be lectured by an English teacher/furniture builder in a third world country, who never wants to live in the United States again, then you’re wrong. You’re in a third world country trying to tell Americans what they are doing wrong. I don’t think you’re stupid, but don’t condemn Americans who are smart enough to stay out of third world problems

Your point is valid about me not living there, which is why I'm so intimately acquainted with just how poor life is in the US - I've seen the quality of life elsewhere and it's so much better in so many places.

Secondly, there's nothing 'third world' about where I live. Granted, there are certainly parts of Costa Rica that I'd qualify that way, but not where I live. I'd have to drive a few to several hours to get to a place like that.

But that's what's so interesting. In this country you call a 'third world country', my quality of life is higher than any I experienced in the US, in 30 years across multiple states, and I have more freedoms and liberties now than I ever did in the US. And that's the point. I'm not lecturing you for some argumentative reason; I'm saying these things to help you realize that the US of our father's and grandfather's generation is long gone, and the 2-party Plutocracy running your country has decreased your quality of life while the rest of the civilized world's has gotten better.

The US is not even close to the best place to live, and that's a shame. Because it should be. I'm only imploring you voters to think, act, and vote in such a way so as to make living in the US the envy of the world. At the moment, it's not that and hasn't been that for a long time.

And regarding my right to speak on US issues, I'm still a citizen and taxpayer, and so I'll continue to exercise those rights and say whatever I please. But don't worry. I have no desire to continue to speak on political issues with most Americans. This post and the 2 yesterday were enough for me for quite a while.

You do hear a LOT more people wanting to come to America than Costa Rica....just saying . Must not be all bad to people

Poor Americans have a much better quality of life than poor from most of the world

Not debating political issues . Just saying we have our faults just like every country but I , for one, am perfectly happy here

I’d give up my citizenship if I didn’t like it here.

Costa Rica sure takes millions of dollars in aid from this shitty country.

Anyways, back to corona. What’s the over under on the total cases we’ll have in the state? Not trying to be morbid and disrespectful, I’m just trying to find something for us to do

All things in life are relative. Everything varies according to what you enjoy, your goals in life, and how much personal responsibility you possess. Some are happy regardless of where they are and others are never satisfied. The one thing that never varies in life is happiness isn't determined by where you but who you are with.

Maxwell-Gunter now at second highest HPCON level

quote:

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The Health Protection Condition, or HPCON, at Maxwell Air Force Base and Gunter Annex is now at ‘Charlie’, just one level below its highest possible designation.

Col. Patrick Carley ordered the HPCON level raised Wednesday in the wake of the still spreading COVID-19 pandemic.

“The safety and wellbeing of the Maxwell-Gunter family continues to be my top priority,” Carley said. “We are working in close partnership with regional, state and local officials, as well as taking in to account guidance and direction from Air Force and Department of Defense leadership, to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus on the installation and within the community.”

I have no issue with anything you have posted but I will disagree here. I have seen a lot of chaos, hate, and death justified for multiple reasons around the world. I have been to countries that no longer exist today due to these reasons. I have seen far more countries with a quality of life no where near ours. There may be some exceptions but in the 70 plus countries I have ventured to most do not compare to the US.

If anything I would say I am disappointed with the US and this is where I feel we can agree because we do have the resources to give those that live here the highest quality of life. So yes there are other countries who do a better job of maximizing what resources they have to ensure a greater standard of living.
