Right, but that only is more reason to think we may need that equipment at home.

It won’t. The number of cases is doubling roughly every 3 days. We’ll catch up pretty quick at that rate unless the curve starts to bend. The states that are having the most trouble with spread are NY, NJ, LA, CA, OH, IL and FL. NY is about to be a mini Italy. It’s bad. SurprIsed that LA is on that list but many think Mardi Gras was their undoing. No restrictions then and travelers from all over. Now it’s coming home to roost.

Regarding testing, healthcare officials are still being dumbasses in certain places. Here in Panama City, I have a friend who is a nurse and her neighbor is a possible positive. He works at the port of Panama City and it’s a pretty decent sized port, had to travel to St. Augustine for training in the last couple of weeks, has a low grade fever, difficulty breathing, all the classic symptoms. He tested negative for flu. They gave him a Tamiflu pack and sent him home without a COVID19 test and told him to self quarantine. WTF??

Yeah, our response to this in general -- from repeatedly downplaying the threat until it had spread everywhere to our failure to secure, distribute and employ adequate testing -- has been a (dark) comedy of errors.

People still keep talking about South Korea's apparent success in limiting cases as if they "hope" that can happen here.

South Korea was testing like 300k people and then meticulously tracing and isolating every single contact of those who tested positive at the same point we were pretending it was just going to disappear.

They're trying to save their tests, for what, cases that are so severe at that point the diagnosis makes no difference in treatment other than to identify if they died of covid or normal pneumonia.

In a radio interview this morning, Dr. Mark Wilson, head of the Jefferson County Health Department, has indicated that he is very close to issuing a shelter in place order for Jefferson County.

From what I've seen, most people in Bham are doing pretty good at not congregating, but I did see a few idiots playing a big volleyball game in Highland park yesterday, as well some kind of big game going on over there off of Montclair, by Mtn Brook.

Pretty interesting story from the LA Times about a Stanford biophysicist that called the China outbreak almost exactly like it ended up playing out.

Hopefully he's as accurate worldwide as he was about China.

To follow up, he said that a shelter-in-place order is basically the "next step" from what they've already ordered. They have been very close to doing it already, and he said it could come as early as tomorrow. Dr. Wilson also explained that he does not make these decisions "rogue." He has the authority to make these decisions, but answers to the Jefferson County Board of Health. Further, he said that he does not issue any order without agreement from the State Health Officer, who also reports any orders/decisions of Dr. Wilson's directly to the Governor.

Apparently, Jefferson and Mobile Counties are the only counties with their own dedicated Health Officer. Decisions for all other counties are made directly by the State Health Officer.

I hope he's right, but the obvious problem with his methodology is taking the numbers the Chinese reported at face value. You can't believe a word the Chinese government says. Lying is their default.

I'm not saying it's the default MO of all of our government officials, but many, if not most of them do plenty of misleading and lying too.

OT: Alabama Coronavirus Thread (157 confirmed cases in AL)

ADPH website still hasn't updated with this morning's numbers, and it's after 10AM. Not sure if there's anything to read in to that, but the anxious mind (such as mine) can make up all kinds of doom-and-gloom explanations, even while being aware that the more likely explanation is that the folks in charge of updating the site are just busy with other things, too.

PRATTVILLE, Ala. (WSFA) - As cases of coronavirus continue to spread across the state, Baptist Health is announcing another drive-up clinic.

Baptist Health announced Monday it will open a drive-up coronavirus care clinic in Prattville. The clinic will be located at 350 County Road 4 West.

More details about the clinic during a news conference around 10:30 a.m. WSFA 12 News will carry this newscast live on-air, online and on the WSFA 12 News app.

WATCH LIVE: Baptist Health opens second drive-up clinic
The first drive-up clinic was launched in the Montgomery area. It is located on 2936 Marti Lane and is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Infectious disease experts say the key symptom of COVID-19 is fever. Secondary conditions are extreme fatigue and a cough. If you have a runny nose, scratchy eyes, and sore throat, those are NOT symptoms of COVID-19.

Again, before going to the testing site, you MUST CALL FIRST. This testing is by appointment only, made by calling 334-747-0150.

Wow, way more deaths then people that recovered.

The recovery rate should jump up soon, the people who got it in early March should be recovering soon.
