With Louisiana giving a stay-at-home order, how long until we do the same in Alabama? Louisiana was the first in the southeast to close public schools too I believe, and we were not far behind.

The VP just said that 9 out of 10 people who think they have the Coronavirus and are tested get back a negative result.

Yeah, that tracks with the results in Alabama. The positive rate in Alabama is about 10% -- 157 cases out of about 1600 tests. But, I mean, is that supposed to be good? Seems like 10% is actually a pretty high clip. To me that's an indication we aren't going to see a significant slowdown as soon as we'd like.

That is 10% of people showing symptoms enough to warrant testing, not the general population.

Yeah, I know. But, given the early symptoms are basically the same as cold/flu/allergies, that still seems pretty high.

There are plenty enough hypochondriacs around to get tested for any sniffle.
I don't know if I should put stock in the % that test negative.

Yeah, that was kind of my reasoning. Lots of folks that panic and get tested for any cold/flu/allergy symptom should drive up the negative rate and drive down the positive rate. But, despite that, we're still seeing 10% positive.

Jefferson County Health Department is closing all non-essential retail stores to close tomorrow night (March 23) at 5pm. This does not include food stores, pharmacies, hardware and building supply stores, office supply stores, and apparently certain technology stores.

Also, I've heard that the UAB testing will only do 250 tests per day.

The Church of the Highlands drive thru testing did 500 per day, but it has ceased now that UAB has started theirs.

What about auto parts stores?

Oil change locations?

Cell phone stores?

Pet food stores?

Clothing stores must close, but Walmart and Target(who sells clothes and groceries can keep selling clothes??)

Italy is requesting the US military send them respirators.

I think given the fact that we have almost twice as many new Covid cases (9339) today as Italy (5560), we need that medical equipment at home.

Yea, Italy is going to have to depend on the EU. The United States needs to take care of our sick.

We have five times the population Italy does too. It's not nearly as bad here right now as it is in Italy, hopefully it stays that way.

If they can justify it they will stay open. A friend of mine owns a auto parts store that mainly supplies parts for the trucking/transportation industry. They consider him essential for what he does and having to keep the trucks on the road.
