Just so I'm clear going forward, are weather alerts allowed in this thread since they're not topical to the Coronavirus?
As creator of this thread and a resident weather nerd, I would say that the post should be allowed since it is simply providing a heads up about a potentially significant severe weather event while everyone is focused on a pandemic. Since everyone is focused on the pandemic, it is worth sharing the weather information so that people are made aware. To me that’s a lot different than a pages long political argument.

An epidemiologist told Business Insider that countries might need to impose new lockdowns every three months until a vaccine is available. Lifting lockdown measures could lead to a re-emergence of the virus. As residents emerge from their homes, go to work, take their children to school, and go shopping, people could be asymptomatic but still spread the novel virus to others.

That sounds about right unfortunately. Unless y'all are OK with Google providing 10-15 days worth of your location data to the government then the test, trace, and selectively quarantine measures the South Koreans have employed can't really work.

I semi-regularly get accused of being angry after responding to post on this board. It is probably the one thing that people do on here that actually perplexes me especially since 95% of what I post are jokes and non sequiturs.

No one is going to agree to that

For the record, the hydroxychloroquine data combined with the research I've done into real world usage appears to show that if you get the drug before the virus takes hold and trashes your lungs, it works. If you don't get it until you're ready for ventilation, good luck buddy.
In an nutshell, if you have symptoms and are still ambulatory but getting worse, you need the hydroxychloroquine. But there are still many restrictions in place on it requiring a positive test. But the catch 22 is testing is still hard to qualify for so how do you get a positive test? If they wait till you are hospitalized, it's a race against the clock whether it helps or not. If you are already ventilated, probably too late.

These stay orders are unconstitutional. Come at me.

No they are not. Neither is individual quarantine orders. They were used frequently in the last century. Your constitutional rights don't override the need for public safety and health. You don't have the right to endanger others.

I only bring it up because those posts are a violation of the rules and weren't singled out, yet differing political opinions have been singled out, both by regular posters and a moderator. A moderator that has participated in the political opinion posts.
I think we can all agree that your/mine/others political discussions are pretty mild compared to the blatant America bashing being done by someone else.

That is what makes the accusation so confusing when it happens
. My guess is it is just a defense mechanism.

Based on what exactly? State governments have police powers, which gives them broad authority when it comes to the general welfare of the population, and even if your constitutional rights are being infringed upon, the most arduous standard of judicial review, strict scrutiny, is easily met in these circumstances.

I agree with this. I have a ton of respect for Carlton. I wish that I could handle myself half as well as he does.

Pretty much everything I've read and heard has led me to believe that once you're on a ventilator you're fricked regardless.

While marijuana use is not yet legal in North Carolina, use of marijuana recreationally or medically is legal in many states. Studies show, however, that even occasional use of marijuana can increase risk of COVID-19 complications. Oh Well this just got real

Emerald Isle has put in place restrictions, including mandatory 14-day quarantines for anyone spending a night in the coastal town if they spent the previous night outside of Carteret County.
So does this mean if I go to the beach tomorrow and spend the night I have to stay another 2 weeks.

Thanks Phil.
This has to be taken in perspective but I think there is some encouraging signs based on the Worldometer numbers for this week. We jumped up at the beginning of the week to about 33,000 new cases a day and a little less than 2000 deaths a day. Not great by any stretch but we have been consistently in that range for the last 3-4 days. I was expecting some spikes this week and hopefully what we have seen is some leveling in the places where we are testing. Also we have gotten our testing up over 7000 test per million. I would really like to see us double that as the countries who looked to have managed Covid the best or who leveled off after bad starts tested around at least 10000 per million with many being much higher. I think if we do that, provide resources so our hospitals don’t get overwhelmed and continue to develop medical strategies to combat COVID we can really put a dent in the expected next wave.
ETA: A few people mentioned an outbreak in a nursing home earlier. Most of you already know this but if you check local news across the country, the nursing home outbreaks are rampant. If you have a relative living in or a family or friend working for a nursing home make sure you reach out to them and provide support.

Really? I’ve never seen you to be distasteful or obnoxious.
I’ve found that people will often project their own attitudes and temperaments onto others on the interweb.
Internet behavior is exhibit A for why this plague does NOT need to lead to increased isolation going forward. We are quite ready to assassinate the character of others on the web, and many people generate intense hatred towards people whom they don’t even know. So much so that they might wish those people dead - a matter that would not really bother them if the affected person is distant, unknown and a monster with zero redeeming qualities in their mind. Kind of like war. We see the person in Iran burning the American flag and we say, “Turn that place into glass.” It’s all distant to us. We never have to look upon the mother crying over her dead child.
We need to go back into society and meet those people with whom we disagree and realize that they are people who have, as Morrisey once said, “Loves and hates and passions just like mine.” Might I add, they have value in God’s eyes.
