The narrative is Bama is down.

The media narrative went out that between the portal and IU debacle we werent Bama anymore.

I personally think that as long as we get high level QB play from Mack or Keelon and the OL is truly improved we will be a CFP level team next year, but the media (who are morons for the most part) will be late to that party rather than early.

Penn St 14?

There team went 8-4 at Iowa St last year, minus Iowa St best defender who went to USC

Meh, that's a couple of spots lower than what I would think Alabama would start the season ranked but whatever. Good thing is there's a lot of opportunity to climb by beating the higher ranked teams on the schedule. Other than that, Notre Dame has a cake walk, Penn St. & Florida over ranked...... par for the course.

You seen their schedule?
Marshall
@Temple
Buffalo
@Maryland
@Michigan
@Northwestern
Minnesota
Purdue
Rutgers
USC
Wisconsin
@Washington

Fans in the SEC fail to comprehend how catastrophically bad the bottom half of the Big Ten has become. Outside of Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, USC and Iowa that conference has basically stopped trying when it comes to football.

All that isnt to say that those top echelon teams are bad because they arent at all, its just that the rest of them are horrific and as a result the records get inflated particularly when teams stop scheduling elite non-con games because the CFP committee just counts wins and losses rather than really evaluating SOS.

Doesn't matter.

Battle for QB similar to the 2011 season with AJ and Sims. Now with the portal not happening after spring drills, I assume Kalen will have a spring game. Hope so anyway.

Very interested to see these young RB's as well as QB's play.

I don’t necessarily disagree starting around 15 until you see they have Penn State and Michigan ahead of us.

Breaking in a new QB, I didn't think we'd be top 5 or anything...but 17 is nuts. I'd say in the 9-11 range.

The team should be extremely motivated. When is the last time Alabama was ranked preseason below 15? 2008 maybe?

Penn St above us seems ridiculous. However, we may be the highest ranked team with a 1st year starter on the list (assuming Chambliss wins his lawsuit and I don’t know Utah’s situation).

We’re too low, but they clearly understand 1st year starters don’t win in the postseason anymore (not to mention that we haven’t fired anyone responsible for the worst Bama running game in 50 years yet).

Our schedule really couldn't set up any better for easing in a first-year starting QB. Assuming we don't trip all over our own dicks again against FSU or some other podunk team, we should get effectively almost two months of practice before the real meat of the schedule kicks in midseason.

A 9-3 Texas team lost to a bad FL team and almost lost to KY and MSU with a 1st year starter at QB (also almost beat OSU in the opener, although OSU had a 1st year starter as well). Nothing is guaranteed with a 1st year starter at QB.

People outside a Bama perspective can see we have issues. That ranking is not surprising.

What isn’t surprising is you being a pessimist.

Mid-teens feels about right to me.

We've got 1 returning OL (Carroll), first-time starting quarterback, lost our leading receiver by yardage (Bernard), lost our leading touchdown scorer (Horton), lost our top TE, none of the backs have accomplished much if anything in college, replacing the entire middle of our defense on the first two levels. We lost 4 games last year with a much more experienced squad. Great freshman class coming in, a mid-tier transfer class (got mostly production on defense, got mostly potential on offense).

Dude, please stop. We get it, no need to say it in every thread.

Anyway, what was Indiana's preseason rank this year?
