On trick plays …

Fair point … I am not going to have a fit if we do something wacky maybe once in a season if it’s absolutely open, but again that moment last weekend was not the moment for any trickery.

Of course the Barn back in the 1980s used to run this double reverse with Freddy Weygand that took five minutes to set up and you could see it coming a mile away and it was all I could do to keep from screaming “REVERSE” from the press box but damned if they didn’t get 40 yards every time they ran it …

Brooks Austin's most recent video confirmed an opinion I've been trying to articulate about our tendencies. We are a hyper-aggressive team, to a fault in my opinion.

We have so many 3rd and shorts - and at least 1 4th and short I remember - where we are calling deep developing route combos trying to put a dagger through a team's heart instead of trying to keep the drive going with a more possession securing play concept. We do very similar things on 1st and 10. Always felt like it was even more amplified on 1st and 10 out of drive start and Brooks basically confirmed my gut feel from watching every play this season on the couch.

Alabama has become too greedy in the play calling department. I get that the coordinator is trying to replace the yardage most teams can get from 2-3 handoffs in a possession. However, we are getting so out of balance that Auburn was basically only playing pass on downs where we ought to have been getting more balanced approach from the opponent. Accordingly, we never could get things going because a lot of our drives were 2nd and 10 or more because of dead-on-arrival first down plays.

I don't have good answers though because it isn't like our run game is going to be good this week against a great run defense given we're down to 1 tailback, Hill, who has regularly participated with the starting offense. Richard Young has been banished to some realm beyond the doghouse. AK Dear is a true freshman who has one meaningful snap - definitely just one meaningful touch - with the starters by my count. I'm glad I don't have to figure out how to produce enough offense to beat UGA this weekend. However the people who do are all millionaires, so I don't feel sorry for them.

Yes but who else would be doing the head football coach’s annual evaluation? I’m sure he has one just like any working stiff. You certainly don’t want micromanagement but coaches still answer to someone.

I'd wager that Byrne and Deboer are in constant communication about all sorts of things related to the program. I highly doubt that Byrne ever gives Deboer advice regarding on-field stuff.

Auburn has a superior run D to Georgia

I don't have a problem with them per se but they've gotta be well timed, well executed and not too long and drawn out. I feel like a lot of the time with Grubb, they're called at the wrong time. I can't put my finger on it but they just seem a bit off and called at the wrong time.

Grubb has obviously never heard of the shovel pass, screen pass, or rolling a Qb out on a passing play.

I'll never understand Grubbs obsession of running plays that need space into the narrow side of the field at a 90-10 ratio. It baffles me.
