Looks like the last two 4 seeds are going to come down to us, Arkansas, and Kansas.
Kansas is very slightly ahead of us in WAB, but they are multiple spots behind us in NET (thank you Houston for blowing them out yesterday). Could come down to if the committee punishes us for Bediako or not, or if Kansas gets a conference/name brand boost.
Arkansas is behind us in WAB and fortunately a win over Ole Miss won’t change that. They are one spot ahead of us in NET and that could widen if they blow out Ole Miss. I already mentioned how the committee could discount the H2H given our home court advantage in an OT thriller. This one will be close.
Either way, our likely ceiling is a S16 but if we don’t play better defense, we won’t reach that ceiling this year.
We have to recruit a better front court next year. There are more guards to go around in today’s game, but front court depth is what separates the top teams. Guards still win in March, but that assumes your front court isn’t such a large mismatch that it completely nullifies any guard advantage you may have.

Bama has been very bi-polar since Oats arrived
This is an over reach
Basketball is not like football, where over the course of the season, basketball teams will have "off" nights. And teams will have "on" nights. It happens.
Michigan has throttled most teams this year, yet they have a few off nights where they lost.
This isn't a case of be bi polar.
What Bama's identity is that they are a much better than average team, just not consistently elite.
I've always tried to figure out who Bamas basketball equivalent would be in college football.
I was thinking like a Washington or maybe a TCU, where they can be really good, but they really aren't going to win the national championship unless several things happen

I agree, and would be happy with a S16 this year. We should be a full go health wise for the tourney. Nate tried to get front court help in the offseason it just did not turn out how we all would have liked.
Who knows , maybe, we can be a team that gets super hot in the tourney this year. We always are victims of other teams doing it to us.

Lunardi has us as the first 4 seed.

If we're in that region Lunardi drew up, we Sweet 16 at best no doubt.

Vandy has a higher NET (although blowout loss to FL could have impact), higher WAB (although a loss to FL will make us almost even there), a relatively convincing H2H although at Vandy, and were ranked higher by the committee in their preliminary ranking.
Joe clearly isn’t factoring in the committee punishing us for Bediako either. If Vandy plays FL close, there isn’t any reason we should be ahead of them.
Bama/UVA is splitting hairs right now and he has them right behind us. Obvious statement, but Joe isn’t always right. If they win one more, they’ll be ahead of us but they could be ahead of us already. Not sure if being the 2 seed in SECT may carry some inherent weight with the committee as to not piss the SEC off given how powerful it is. That, and UH blowing out Kansas, may be our saving grace.

I honestly don’t know which 1 seed has the best chance of losing to an 8/9 winner. An argument could be made it’s AZ if they have an off night shooting and the 8/9 is physical enough to play with them.
Unfortunately, they will likely bully us to death again if we play them. To beat them, we’d have to have an other worldly shooting night, them have an extreme off night shooting, the refs help us, and several rebounds/loose balls just magically bounce our way. If the game goes as expected, we lose by 12+ again and get out-rebounded by 20.

the same things beat bama last night that beats them almost every time since cno arrived. missed free throws and layups.
jmo, but i'll be surprised if this team gets past round two. hopefully, i'll be surprised.

He’s really not. Stats can be misleading. Bacot was never a dominating force that scared anyone who played him. He can’t even get on an NBA team.
The equivalent would be saying Broome is one the best big men in the history of the SEC. Sure, he racked up a lot of stats and won a lot of games, but no one was truly scared of being dominated by him. He could win some 1:1 matchups in certain games and sometimes would be hot from 3, but he also could disappear and lose to a 13 seeded Yale team.

No one’s saying they weren’t a valid 1 seed. They were just the weakest one of the bunch and the only one we truly matched up with well. NCAAT is often about matchups, and that one was very favorable to us allowing us to make our first final 4.
I completely disagree. Houston was a one seed that year and their tallest contributor was 6'8 and he averaged 7.5 points and 6 rebounds per game. Carolina had a power forward that averaged 10.3 rebounds per game and a hybrid Forward who averaged 9 rebs per game and both were double digit scoring contributors. How is that a weak front court compared to Houston?
Pointing out that Bama's weak spot has been against match ups with long front courts isn't exactly cracking the code... I think we are all very aware of that. My point would be that UNC actually had a solid front court by the numbers and they were certainly a worse match up on paper than Houston was for us that year. I don't think anyone is arguing that the 1 seeds this year are all probably out of our league. My argument is you have consistently discredited that win against UNC and I think maybe you should give it a little more thought.

I sat right behind the bench last night and I can tell you this. Holloway was totally checked out. His body language and attitude were terrible. Coach kept coming up to him and talking to him but nothing was working. Wrightsell’s attitude was good it just wasn’t a good night for him. Philon was good all night. Sherrill is soft as can be, I thought Williamson and yes I’m saying this deserved to be in the game, he was playing his arse off and actually making a difference, his body language was very encouraging on the bench. Bowen I dunno man, his attitude is great he just is so hit or miss. Allen and Mallette were bumps on a log on the bench, head down, etc. We looked totally stoned the entire game. The crowd was super motivating for the team and they never got fired up.

Last night wasn’t on the defense. We only give up 80 points at our pace of play we gotta win that game. Too many layups and Open 3s missed.
Only thing I will criticize Oats for this season is he should be playing Bethea more. I feel like he is our best on ball defending Guard and if we would have played him enough the offense would have eventually came…he is too talented for it not to

That’s big 2021-22 team vibes too. Not enough respect for the opponent. Team a bit too cocky for one with such massive deficiencies in the front court.

If Alabama is a 4 or even 5 seed, you have to play the 1 seed in the sweet 16.
Our best hope to get past the sweet 16 this year is either somehow get blessed with a 3 seed , or have the 1 seed get upset before we'd play them.
We can have good games , like last year against BYU when we would have beaten anybody.
