Quote: Here are just a few things that have changed in the short 4 years since Bryce was a first year starter:

1) the number of teams with a 20mm roster has increased somewhere between 500% and infinity/undefined (don’t think there was even a single 20mm roster in Bryce’s day, but maybe 1 or 2)

2) the price tag on individual positions, especially experienced QBs, has increased 300+%

3) the depth at Bama and every other top P4 team has gotten significantly more shallow. 2 and 3 deeps aren’t what they used to be for Bama, UGA, OSU, etc.

4) zero of the 8 teams who made the semis in the past 2 years had 1st year starters at QB

5) 3 of the 4 teams that made the semis this year have never made the semis ever before…2 of the 4 had never even made a playoff before. This wasn’t the case in Bryce’s day when the same 5-6 teams were cycling through the playoffs year after year with 1 outlier from time to time.

6) the team favored by over a TD to win the NC this year was the “losing-est” team in the history of college football prior to their current coach arriving 2 years ago. That kind of turnaround would never have been possible even just 4 years ago.

7) last years NC lost 2 games including a home game to an unranked 7-5 rival before tearing through the playoff field. This year a team playing for the NC was assumed by Vegas to not even make the expanded 12 team playoff before edging out ND who had -1600 odds to make it prior to the announcement. They have losses to SMU and Louisville. 4 years ago, both of those teams would have been laughed at in terms of winning a NC.

So you’re saying we have a chance?

Frankly, I don't care where a player comes from as long as he can play. And since we clearly aren't in the $2 million market for WRs, we need to find those diamonds in the rough.

CFB is fundamentally changed from a bunch of guys who loved their school, played for bragging rights, and a chance to go make a bunch of money in the pros into a bunch of variously paid mercenaries who only care about the “me” in team. College in a large way was fun because you got to watch a fierce competition for big nfl lottery contracts from guys with nothing. Now you get to watch 20 year old millionaires play a game while looking distracted and disinterested half the time.

The most difficult part for 95 pct of teams including us is that if you have a player that has a great year, one of the Texas teams will buy them. And these professional players don’t have to go to school. They need to put an asterisk beside all the college record books during this period of professional sports indicating it was professional sports.

What players aren't required to go to school?

Carson Beck just said he graduated two years ago and has no classes.

I’m fine with rolling with Keelon as long as we keep him 2 years and people set reasonable expectations for his 1st year (the reasonable expectations won’t happen).

This is where you are getting the downvotes. There are still people on this board who believe if KD had just started the latest greatest 5 star, true freshman that Bama would be 15-0 and playing tonight.

They refuse to temper their expectations because when Bama loses games next season(spoiler alert, they will), they want to be able to skyscream and throw their tantrums about firing coaches because its cathartic for them.

It will take many years for Bama to get over the "we have the superior roster to everyone and our jerseys have that crimson red so if we dont win every game its because someone is lazy or sucks"

I thought that was very odd. I thought it was always understood that those that graduate...start graduate school. I guess now if you graduate, you just become a professional

Taking only online classes is also an option, that's what Joe Burrow said he did.

This is just retarded, many fans want changes because of a completely inept running game and questionable development on both the OL and DL, but go on feeling good about yourself because you feel superior to us stupid rednecks

It is subjective depending on how they play throughout the season.

My expectations are for the defense to continue to be consistent, and the offense to take a massive step forward and produce a functional running game (is no longer hard on the eyes).

If they accomplish that and have a very solid season, then lost against a very good opponent in a competitive 2nd round Playoff game, then “Yes” I would be satisfied with the season and have hope for even better going forward.

I believe the overwhelming majority of (rational) Bama fans would be very satisfied with that, and would be really looking forward to the future.

I don’t think I’m going out on a limb by asserting that all eyes are on the offense (especially the run game), and that source of frustration will be remedied or continue to the point of contention with CKD. If it’s the latter, then most fans will agree that if it’s not fixed by next season then it never will be.

I am personally optimistic that it will improve. If indeed, the running game does become viable, then the win/loss record will take care of itself.

Will you start a new thread with the same title and information in the 1st two posts of this one?

We don't need 160+ pages of people discussing non-portal things at the top of the board.

I don't know what page this thread jumped to after un-pinning it.

Bump.

I’m not sure we could get close enough to Miami’s offer to make it a difficult decision.

Where does Miami's money come from? It's a relatively small, private university without an on campus stadium or a lot of fan support. I get tOSU and the Texas schools having deep pockets but what is the source of Miami's pay for play?

I am ready to roll with Keelon and take whatever happens . Our last two QBs have cost us a game or two each year , so let KR learn on the job

What do you think happened with Sayin at OSU or Underwood at Michigan? Of course Ty cost us a game or two, that’s what 1st year QBs do when there is parity between teams.

Unless Keelon is truly a once in a generation talent, which means he’s substantially better than Bryce, Trevor, Mendoza, etc., then he’s going to cost us a game or two as well next year (or Mack). That’s just how football works.

Miami offered Ty 6.5 million dollars and he turned it down. He knows that this year's weak draft class makes him an almost guaranteed 1st round pick. If he stayed at Bama he'd be contending with a much stronger draft class next year. He'd have been stupid to stay no matter what we offered him.

The draft class point may have been a deciding factor in the end, but I think if we had offered something in the 2.5-3.5mm range to keep him, he likely would have come back if not for the weak draft class.

If we don’t have somewhere in the 2-4mm range to pay an experienced QB already on our roster, we are in deep trouble unless they set an enforceable salary cap for CFB. Imagine starting Keelon this year and then having him portal to Miami or Oregon because we can’t afford to make the gap small enough to keep him. That would be a disaster in terms of trying to win championships

I honestly couldn’t care less about downvotes or upvotes. One of the greatest truths in life is that people don’t like to face hard truths (certainly not on message boards). It’s a bit ironic in a sense.

I am still holding out hope we make some staff changes. Having a 1st year starter doesn’t excuse poor coaching, so OL and ST coaches at a minimum have to go.

2026 is Kalen's. He can do whatever he wants. He will be held to account at the end of 26 one way or another.
