I don't see how anyone can count on that. IMO it would be a miracle if he ever plays again

I don’t see how this is remotely sustainable for a lot of FBS programs right now.
Its not sustainable for anyone but Texas schools, Oregon, and Ohio State.
Those schools will be able to live in Fantasy world where they can just buy any player they want to. The rest of us will have to keep recruiting the elite HS kids( we can still afford them) and RETAINING THEM.
Roster retention is gonna be the biggest key for us going forward if we wanna stay near the top. We can afford the elite HS kids, we can't the elite portal ones

thought Carroll projected as a guard at the next level?
Proctor probably ends up there at the next level if he doesn’t get his conditioning right, doesn’t mean you can convince them of it when half the schools in America will promise them whatever they want to transfer.
It’s like trying to get a pretty woman to better herself when half the guys on instagram are trying to slide in her DMs… good luck with that.

Agreed. I would be absolutely stunned if he came back. I don't know this but I would think his doctors have urged him to give up football.

Texas schools
I’ll just point out that Texas fans were jumping out of windows until the Coleman/Hollywood signing convinced Sark was off in Vegas on a bender because they had lost a ton of people and hadn’t added anything to that point.
The reality is the portal is a lot more churn (10k players still unsigned) of guys that are being soft cut or told they’re losing rev share due to lack of progress than it is quality/elite starters moving around outside of a handful of kids per team.
Look at LSU. They were just celebrating in the streets that they signed Sam Leavitt for $4-$6M.
Sam Leavitt couldn’t win the starting job at Michigan State against guys who are floating around the portal still, went to ASU and had two seasons that would’ve left him finishing just ahead of Jackson Arnold from a QB rating standpoint and is injury prone.
Could he develop under Kiffin? Absolutely.
Would I be having heart palpitations if a guy who had a worse year than Jackson Arnold when adjusted for competition and was recovering from injury had just been signed as our starter for $6M? Yeah.
That’s the 2026 transfer portal in a nutshell.

Portal really is a boon to some top paying teams on paper. I suspect however the average motivation of a 21 year old multimillionaire football player is on the lower side. Maybe some of them pan out but some will not.

I just don't see Seaton as an option for Alabama. He is likely looking for ahigh visability LT spot and good money to launch him for the NFL draft. Neither he or Haywood would be open to sliding inside.
If Alabama pushes Carroll/Lloyde in to guard, they are likely to look for a portal exit ASAP. Then the OL staffing issues continue into another year of portal unease.
I am not saying we are going after Seaton but I could an option where we may be talking with a few guys that will may wait to sign them until after the portal closes in cases a current player might not like the addition. As long as they enter before the 16th they can still go anywhere after that.
I assume our main focus is on keeping who we want from our current roster first.

I agree. I was being facetious to a degree. I’m sure it’s a pipe dream to say the least.
I think Bama is in good shape at Tackle honestly:
Between Carroll/Haywood/Loyd, that should be enough talent to be successful with proper coaching. It’s not feasible to have more depth than that anymore.
When you put it into perspective, the only losses to the Portal that were of consequence were:
- Offensively: Horton and Formby
- Defensively: J. Smith and Keeley
I personally do not believe that any of the others were of consequence.
Offensively, Noah Rogers and Ty Haywood are adequate replacements, if not upgrades over Formby and Horton imo.
Defensively, the two DT’s they added are good fits imo. The USC kid can play a 3-tech, a 4-tech, and a Shade the same way James Smith could.
I also liked the addition of a big body (MSU transfer) in the middle who can rotate with L. Simmons the way he did with T. Keenan this past year at the Shade/0 Technique .
I do hope Bama will take another interior lineman and hopefully 1 more DL….that would put the roster is solid shape for next year imo.
I also look for TF like Xavier Griffin and Jireh Edwards to make a difference immediately.

Assuming we hold onto these commits/signees unlike Grifter Hollywood Smothers, Alabama got 2 sure thing starters on defense and 2 OL who were likely to start for Michigan's OL in 2026 until Sherrone failed to stay away from the sneaky snow bunnies then tried to kill himself with a butter knife because of it. We also seemingly got a whole new specialist battery (PK, P, and LS) but Talty is still around to keep that long snapper honest.
Finally, we are cornering the market on tight end project players. An important area to dominate.

I’ll jump in on this first quarterback thing. The very first one I remember was Scott Hunter. I had heard of Namath and Stabler and Sloan, but did not see them at Alabama. I was born when Namath was the quarterback. But I heard as much about Harry Gilmer from my dad as I had Namath and Stabler. I remember going into the 1971 season my dad not being too excited. The previous year having ended with a loss to the Bugs and tying Oklahoma in the Bluebonnet Bowl. What a decade the 70s turned out to be! From the fifth grade all the way through my freshman year in college, I had bragging rights against all of our rivals.

One of the recruiting guys put out that his camp is asking for way more than $2MM and that he already has offers in the $2MM range. I dont foresee us winning that bidding war.

My feeling is that we're in the market for Wilson more to drive the price up than anything else. There is no way they're paying what I assume it will end up costing to close him. If the entry into the contest is 2m, someone probably has up to 4m to close the deal if they really need him.

Texas is really pissing me off. They will have probably 35-40 million dollar roster by the end of this

more than that. Theyre spending close to 25 million on 4 players

What the hell could we possibly be doing with 8 tight ends on the roster?
