Yep, there's been a clear difference in the talent at RB vs what we used to have consistently. Great RBs are going to average 4.5 to 6 yards a carry regardless.

4 26 and 28 are as average as you can get. Evaluations on that crew were awful. Then again, they might have all been the best we could get. You need 5 just to protect yourselves.

I forgot about Washington.

There is no reason to carry 5 scholarship Backs IMO. I would rather have 1 stud with a capable backup and a freshman recruit (Crowell). If you lose 3 in one season well that’s just the risk you have to take. I would rather 3 very good RB’s than 1 good one and 4 “depth pieces” that never contribute anything like the ULL transfer (or wherever he came from) and Riley. That money could be put towards an OL that could actually help you win on Saturday.

Tennessee and Ole Miss, according to the source, offered Simpson $4 million. In 2025, Simpson's base salary at Alabama was $400,000, according to a source close to Simpson. It doubled to $800,000 with incentives.

If this is true, then Alabama football is dead. I dont see how schools can pay this type of money regardless of boosters. If I were a rich booster, id give money but I would go full retard either. holy shite

Hubbard, Pierre

Losing these two to the draft would be disastrous.

I’ve been careful to defend the roster decisions to date or at least wanting to see it all play out, but if they let Qua go without knowing Pierre was coming back or having an edge portal option lined up it would be catastrophic.

Yeah and last night people were calling it clickbait when I shared the AL.com story.

Maybe it’s going to finally dawn on people how much we are through the looking glass in this sport and how we’re playing with Monopoly money compared to other schools.

Just because Ty was making 800k once he won the starting job and hit incentives in 2025 does not mean he would have been offered 800k in 2026. If I had to guess, Alabama's offer was probably not better than being a mid-to-late first round draft pick or not better enough to get him to stay. I think the 32nd pick is about ~2.5m/year and Cam Ward got an 8m/year deal as #1 overall in 2025. Miami is trying to name a number that will keep a first rounder out of the draft. They got Beck by naming a number that would beat an early 2nd round pick last year.

I don't think this is apt to work though. 2026 is a weak QB draft class whereas 2027 stands to be a deep one. He knows he's a first round pick today, with a lot of guaranteed money and getting to a second contract quicker.

The only way he does this is if he really wants to scratch the itch of trying to win a national championship.

We have repeatedly lost 3 RBs In one season in the past. One year under Saban we were forced to play a LB at RB. We lost 3 RBs last year for stretches of time, and that was without us being as run heavy as many would have liked. RBs take a beating.

Honestly, the RB position is deeper than some other areas that we should focus on (i.e OL/DL). I’m not too concerned about missing out on Smothers. He is a beast but rather spend money elsewhere. Just like I wouldn’t draft a 1st round RB in the NFL.

I think our inability to run the ball had as much to do with our backs as it did our offensive line/scheme. None of the guys we had could make something out of nothing, and frankly made of habit of making nothing out of something when something presented itself.

Too many times they went down on first contact or couldn't make a guy miss in space. Crowell just has an entirely different demeanor as a ballcarrier. He fights for every inch.

I don’t disagree but my own philosophy at the portal is this…

- Make OL and DL the priority.
- Next follow up with QB/DBs.

Use HS players for skill positions and depth.

As long as folks keep watching on tv, its sustainable for a few schools on am ongoing basis and a bunch more will try to spend up every once in awhile.

Unless the masses turn away, its where we are and will be. Dont throw out a cb agreement will fix it. Why would players agree to a cb? They have ultimate power and no reason to agree to it.

We've already missed the boat there. It wasn't a strong portal class either way along the lines, but the best have signed elsewhere. I mean some of the top linemen in the portal this cycle are the ones leaving Alabama
