So we should have a much better idea how it's shaping up after Saturday correct? Hopefully Bateman stinks it up and it'll get really interesting.

I'd like for it to be Barnett, but I'd just like for someone to distance themselves from the others

I think folks should be prepared for.. no starter being named and a couple folks playing in game one.

I don't care who says it, that is not ideal. We've made it work before but it's not what you want. I hope one of three steps up and seizes the job with both hands and strangles the frick out of it Saturday. That's what you want to happen.

Not picking on you because you aren't the only person to express this type of sentiment but this attitude really bothers me.

Nobody should be hoping a Bama player stinks it up. I'm hoping they all have great days but someone - and I don't care who - just shows themselves to have that extra little something that elevates them from good to great.

You are too kind. Anyone that displays that persona is a sad pathetic human and no doubt a failure in their own right in life.

I just hope after the Saturday scrimmage Saban announces that: "We don't like to have quality young men transfer out of our program, but after seeing the progress of our remaining DBs I understand the concern that the young men who transferred had about playing time."

Shouldn't have said that. I don't want anyone to fail, especially a player that's put in as much work as Bateman. I guess the hype for the other two just got the best of me.

It is really hard to not ge excitied when you hear so much good being said about a young QB. I'm excited about the potential too.

Everyone just needs to remember if it is Bateman that hits the field in a couple of weeks, that will mean the staff thinks he is better.

Correct like I said on pages back not sure the number he has type 1 and simply cannot practice at times, nothing he can do about it.

At this point I think we can all agree that if Bateman starts it is because he is more prepared, has a better grasp of the offense. But there is no universe where he is better than the other two.

I think the concern with Bateman winning it has more to do with the past mentality under Saban that the starter is the one that makes the less mistakes. So it is not that Bateman is not capable but now that we are recruiting a higher quality of QB we want to see a QB that can take it to the next level. Meaning yes they will make a mistake on the field but also one that can get right back out there and put the team on his back and win the game.

We are use to having a QB that manages things well, makes very few mistakes, but yet we have had to rely on our RBs, defense, etc. to win the tough games. Not that I am complaining about our past record but as a fan I would love to have that QB, especially with our WRs and TEs that would dazzle and pick teams apart. Hurts might be that guy or he may not be but I think many of us feel we are due that type of QB with our level of recruitment and success. Yes does that make us somewhat entitled, yes but we have the right to be with Saban at the helm with 4 NC under him.

I think that's the biggest dilemma (it's usc). If it was a team on the level of whisky again. I think it would be easy to pull the trigger on a dual game of B8 or J2.. But this is a huge game for USC to make a statement for there program. being back and in good hands under there second year HC. But also what a great chance this is for Bama to show a whole other element to what already has been a powerful offense over the last 3 years or more. With a legit dual threat pass/option read QB that will show same play-action pocket delivery combined with a threat on the edges... This post was edited on 8/17 at 8:09 pm

I don't think anyone doubts for a second that he's the least physically gifted of the three but that's only part of the equation that determines who will be the 'better' quarterback. As you said preparation, understanding the offense, judgement, and physical ability are all factors that must be weighed. A guy that can scramble to get that first down isn't much use if he's going to turn around and throw an interception on the next play.

And again, I'm not arguing for Bateman or anyone else. I'd LOVE to have a known dynamic playmaker under center for two or three seasons in a row. I'll be ecstatic if it is one of the younger guys (particularly Hurts) but if it isn't then I have no problem accepting that their superior physical ability wasn't enough to outweigh deficiencies in other areas of their game.

Man I hope not. USC is not a game for a QB audition. They could beat Alabama. Shouldn't on paper. But could.

They could. If the QB has a perfect game and their defense is playing inspired
