Wasn't Coker sick before/during the Ole miss game, which may have impacted the start as well.

I think the main reason was they felt Ole Miss had a very fast defense and they were still worried about Cokers mobility in the pocket. Bateman showed that he could pull up and run it. If you remember Ole Miss had a player on the edge who always sold out and crashed down quickly along the back of the line to get Henry before he got started. Bateman was suppose to read that and pull some and take it around. This would have made the defense play honest. He never would do it during the game.

Bateman a 45%

Barnett has a 40%

Hurts obviously would be at 15% IMHO

I don't have any inside info, but my guess would be (at least to start against USC):

Bateman - 65%
Barnett - 25%
Hurts - 10%

And I would be "most excited" to see Hurts.

At the end of the day, IF Bateman can win the job he would be the best case scenario for multiple reasons.

I really like Bateman and think he's a great kid that we can be proud of - I just hope he can "do enough" passing and fricking starts using his legs.

I view Barnett and Hurts as less consistent but more talented (and at this point am willing to chalk Hurts' flaws more up to inexperience than Barnetts (but I tend to forget that Barnett is still a fricking RS-Freshman)).

Unfortunately, we (and probably the staff) just don't know now. Would anyone truly be shocked if we lose a couple games with different guys and a healthy Corn takes over later in the season and wins us a Sugar Bowl and becomes the clear #1 for 2017.

I don't believe this to be remotely accurate of Bateman's performance, even referencing last year. Dude actually played fairly solid - just didn't win the team. And by all accounts, he's had a nice spring and start to fall, enough to be QB1 if we played today.

It's not remotely accurate, this dude is just talking out of his arse on the past 3 or 4 posts. Maybe more, I haven't really noticed him before.

Yes. Corn's career at Bama is over. He's biding his time before he transfers in Dec/Jan. I've felt the entire offseason that Bateman will start against USC. I won't be surprised if his first throw is a pick six. I just don't think he has the stuff to be a consistent winning QB. He can be a guy we can muddle through with as long as things are going well, but on third and long, I'm holding my breath. I think we drop a game early, either USC or Ole Miss, maybe Arkie. If it's due to a struggling offense, the coaches will have to make a decision. Do we play out the season with Bateman or build for the future? UT and LSU are very losable games as well. If we drop a 2nd game, I think you have no choice but to change QB's, or at least split time with them. On the other hand, Kiffin has been a wizard when it comes to playing to a guy's strengths and hiding his weaknesses. If he can do it once again, he's earned every penny we and USC pay him.

And I'd say

Barnett 80%
Bateman 11%
Hurts 9%

Literally every reporter, herbstreit, Barnhart, Travis Reier, BOL all said that Barnett has looked the best in EVERY practice as a complete package. That means throwing, running, maturity, leadership, good decision making, accuracy, knowledge of the play book, and confidence.

This Bateman shite is just sad. You would think the entire Bateman family were posters on this board.

First, this may be the most incorrect statement I've seen on this board in quite some time.

Second, do you understand what a 15-minute media viewing period is? And that with the exception of Fan day, our practices are crazy secretive? Reporters don't get to watch practice. Get your head out of your @ss.

Alabama returned to the practice field Thursday evening for its second two-a-day practice of the day and its ninth overall fall-camp practice. The Crimson Tide practiced in shells on a mostly-cloudy, 79-degree night.

Here are several tidbits from the Crimson Tide’s second Thursday practice in Tuscaloosa:

- After participating in individual drills, redshirt sophomore cornerback Marlon Humphrey did not take part in the team’s nickel period of practice. It is not, however, due to an issue according to an Alabama spokesman.

- During nickel drills, the secondary had a new look without Humphrey and was made up of Minkah Fitzpatrick and Anthony Averett at corner, Eddie Jackson at Star and Ronnie Harrison and Laurence Jones at safety. The nickel linebackers were Reuben Foster (MIKE), Rashaan Evans (WILL) and Ryan Anderson (JACK).

- The second group of nickel defenders were Kendall Sheffield and Jared Mayden (with Aaron Robinson shadowing him) at corner, Shyheim Carter at Star, Tony Brown and Deionte Thompson (with Trevon Diggs shadowing him) at safety, Shaun Hamilton and Keith Holcombe at inside linebacker and Christian Miller at JACK linebacker.

- Holcombe, who has been missing from some recent practice periods, participated in all of Thursday night’s drills.

- The quarterbacks started off the evening practice by throwing to the running backs. Bo Scarbrough, Damien Harris, B.J. Emmons and Joshua Jacobs made up the tailback line. Jacobs (thigh contusion) did not appear to be limited.

- The Crimson Tide offensive linemen spent time working on pass blocking and throwing medicine balls.

- NFL scouts from the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens watched Thursday’s practice.

*** What’s next: Alabama will be back at practice at 2:30 p.m. CT for its final tuneup before its first scrimmage.

That's what I've heard. Rumor(?) is that he had the flu and a fever. It was a game time decision to not start him.

It doesn't matter what they say. All that's matters is how they performed with the 1's in the scrimmage. 1 of them will likely shite the bed. Leaving 2, the next scrimmage will sort out that issue if it doesn't we might play 2 until its decided. It's pretty simple though, unless all 3 look all world then its decision time.

Holy frick that is a ton of talent. The first group in the Nickel will be fun. Ryan Anderson quietly had 6 sacks last year and 11.5 tackles for loss. Having him and Evans on the field at the same time will be sick.

I don't care what insiders say, but CNS always says the QB has to win the team.
Based on that, my feeling is its BB8, also I think it's Kiffins guy too. Kiffin has earned the right to choose who he wants, or at least carry a significant amt of weight.
Game is going to recognize game, these players know who they want, and it's not someone who can throw like the rest of us.

Saban is probably more worried that Lane would get too pass happy with Barnett
Check out this vid. It's from the playoffs. The only non biased analyst made some great points

The crazy thing to me is why any informed fan would want Barnett at this juncture. He had the worst spring camp I've ever heard of. In the first 2 scrimmages, he threw 6 picks (3 pick sixes). Those in attendance reported how cringeworthy and laughably bad he was.

And so, is it that you all forgot this info, or you never knew it to begin with? Simply put, I'd take Bateman and his occasional ducks on extreme long balls to Barnett's hemorrhaging the football to the other team - every day and twice on Sunday. And I can't for the life of me understand how a person could think Barnett has shown himself to be our best option, when if fact, he's been the demonstrably worst option we could put on the field. I'm baffled.

Seriously, none of you would similarly forgive a RB for fumbling that much, so why do you wear blinders regarding Barnett?
