Basketball will be pretty expensive overall in the next decade with coaches and infrastructure improvements of Coleman/new arena

Nate Oates of Buffalo is the hottest mid major name in coaching circles along with Musselman at Nevada and Mike Young at Wofford.

Nebraska, Washington State, Texas A&M and Wake Forest appears to be the other Power 5 schools that will definitely be in the market for a coach.

It will be interesting to see if Alabama joins this group and what other names emerge from post season play as hot commodities for a P5 job.

Not really concerned about Nebraska or Washington State as potential competition for basketball coaches. Texas A&M of course is a major competitor and Wake Forest has a pretty stout basketball history even though they haven't been great recently.

Agreed but just like the tourney field this year, the coaching pool is rather sparse and any P5 job will be fighting for a limited number of candidates.

ETA: Here’s our only hope: on April 16, 2019 his buyout goes from $8 million to $6 million. Now we can suffer through another season of Avery and go about 14-17 next year while Avery collects another $2.9 million in salary and on April 16th we pay him another $3 million to go away. Or on April 16th, 2019, we can pay him $6 million to go away now. To me, that $100,000 difference isn’t worth letting the basketball program fall further behind the league. I’d go to him and say he can “resign” after tomorrow and we’ll pay him his $6 mil to leave or he can wait till April 16th and we’ll fire you publicly for the same amount. The choice is clear to me.

I get what you're saying, but it's not a $100,000 difference unless you think we're going to find someone to coach us for a year without compensation.

WF is no threat b/c they're like the fourth (at best) school in NC. Tough situation.

More concerned about UCLA and Texas.

Avery isn't getting fired. His buyout is too high from the schools perspective. Byrne's will sell keeping him by pointing out the incoming recruiting class and lack of candidates in the coaching pool this year.

Not saying it's right but that's what will happen.

Lack of candidates in the coaching pool?

TF does that even mean?

Alright get ready. It looks like it’s going to happen. Get your favorite replacement for Avery and throw his name in the hat.

1) Fred Hoiberg
1a) Thad Matta if he’s able and available.
2) Steve Forbes
3) Craig Smith

Too many signals are aligning. Cecil unleashed a blistering column THEN follows it up by saying he spotted Byrnes car at the athletic department this afternoon...with no competitions in town today. Cecil said that’s unusual to say the least. Avery supporters are getting real defensive and circling the wagons. Al.com ran an article that basically said change was needed.

It sounds like people are getting their ducks in a row for the announcement. We will be relegated to the Nit tomorrow and the first and probably last round will be Tuesday or Wednesday. Then it can happen at any time.

I wish Bama could convince Steve Wojo from Duke that he needed a stint as HC somewhere to be considered as Coach K's replacement.

After watching Prohm and Iowa State I have reservations about him. Reserve players declined to enter the game late for him for some reason...was odd. Players were asked how they turned their season around and they said players only meeting that coaches were not allowed to attend...

Realistically I could get on board with Forbes.

ETA: No, I dont think Wojo would come to Bama but I would love to see him here.

Well he's been the coach at Marquette for 5 years now, so I'd say he's doing that.

LOL, it happens, especially with Duke assistants.

They're almost like Saban guys - a new ones get a head job every year and another one gets fired from his post-Duke job. It's hard to keep up with who is where.

Like I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I'm not going to pretend I keep up with who would be good coaches to Target. But, from what I've been reading here, I like Matta and Forbes
