I think Bama got an opportunity to be really good.

Just work on some things...like not leaving your feet defensively and turnovers.

Random observation from tonight: While I’ve been sweating thinking about getting relegated to the rafters in a new area, Chris Stewart and Bryan Passink got relegated to the rafters tonight in Coleman. Had normees sitting at the broadcast table on each side of the TV crew and Bama radio was up by the TV cameras on the north side of Coleman.

If we could keep people out of walking boots and arm splints it would really help.

And there also almost zero chance that we would have Bradley and Philon both. If we had kept Bradley, Philon likely never comes here to begin with. Might have even been too expensive for both.

Either way, send like it's worked out great for us and Arizona.

Can we still play Collins a few games and redshirt?

Mallette played 6 last year and got a medical RS. But I'm pretty sure Collins is playing this year. He'll probably average 6-8 mpg. But he's a big body with 5 fouls, and moves pretty damn his for someone 6-10 to 7' and 265-270 lbs.

Some observations last night:

- Philon is an NBA guard, we're lucky to have him another year
- We really missed another guard to get the offense going. Holloway is obviously that guy when Philon's out, but was out injured. I think Wrightsell and maybe Bethea are also capable. If Holloway and Wrightsell can't go Saturday, Philon has to play 40 minutes.
- Maybe it's because my expectations were low, but I really liked the way Williamson moved. I thought he handled the pick and rolls better than Sherrell defensively.
- Really impressed with the freshmen, especially Allen. Was getting after it and got a couple unfortunate whistles or he would have had 5+ steals. He did get blown by a couple times though.
- TBB didn't look comfortable at all on either end. Hopefully just first game jitters because we need his length.

Bradley never seemed like a great fit for Oats' system. He shot 31% from 3 his freshman year to go with 39% overall. So he wasn't a great shooter *or* finisher. Glad to see he's doing well and even more glad we've got Philon who won't still be playing college ball as a junior.

He still isn't a good 3 point shooter. Dude scored 27 with zero 3 attempted. So he really isn't a good fit. But that's funny is a lot of people said Philon sucked at shooting, and it turned out he wasn't bad after a year at Link Academy. That bitch arse former Wade assistant did a game good job with Philon.

But he just looks dominant now. He looked great before. But between last night and the exhibitions, he looks like he's taken it to the next level. He's now looking like a dude capable of playing NBA minutes right now. The next 2 games will tell us a lot about his growth. I don't know as much about St John's, but going into the season, Purdue has the top PG in the country. So we'll get you see the true development very soon.

I think you try to put more length on Braden Smith and save as much of Philon's juice as you can for the offensive end.

They had problems dealing with Philon's athleticism last year so hopefully we can replicate that next week.

Through the 3 games I have watched, he seems to have an instincts and motor issue. I don't think he is lazy, but he kind of has a little bit of what Cliff had a lot last year. He gets caught watching a lot and his instincts defensively when guarding the ball are just bad, especially against guys he has a decent length advantage against.

My takeaways:

- Philon is a player of the year candidate. Looks at an entire different level (this is backed by both the behind the scenes noise and exhibitions as well).

- Freshmen look great. Not sure how much Jemison plays with Bristow available, but held his own and didn't look out of place (just needs to trust his shot). Allen looked exactly like what he was hyped up to be in pre-season practices. Looked a lot more comfortable out there, was at a different intensity defensively and played within himself on offense (avoided the drifting and off-the-dribble threes that caused some ugly misses in the exhibition games). And Hannah is an unreal defender whose 3-ball looks a lot better than advertised coming into the program. Didn't make one but they were both down and out and the form looked solid. Had a couple pretty finishes and an emphatic slam (I think we'll see a lot of those).

- Sherrell scared me a bit in the exhibitions. Moved slowly and looked out of sorts on offense. Looked a lot more mobile, active defensively, and had a very advanced moves on one of his finishes today that has me excited. Williamson also looked a lot more mobile than I expected and as advertised sets some great screens. I imagine Onyejiaka is going to have a high foul rate, but love his activity (5 rebounds in 6 min) and he seems to offer two things that are essential for this team (rim protection and rebounding).

- Mallette is so active. Not going to be a star player, but such a projectable glue guy for this team.
