You mean like tuition, room and board, books, food, and stipend valued at around 100k dollars?

Yeah. Poor guys.

GTFO.

One thing the NCAA should do for the player's benefit is eliminate all spring semester organized football activity, including spring practice. It would make it a 1 semester sport and allow students to have a more normal student social and academic experience during college

I dont think the answer is paying players, I think its the universities stopping treating the football program as a money machine.

There should be limits on commercial time in games, no more scheduling FCS games to fleece fans out of money, no more flashy ads in the stadiums, no more cash grab bullshite.

*I cant believe im being downvoted. Some of you are seriously brainwashed. CFB sacrifices tradition, athlete, and fan experience at every turn for the slightest cent and stupid fans cant wait to clap and scream about how much money the program made(they’ll never see a dime of it, and ticket prices keep on climbing).

Paying players is fricking asinine.

They get enough benefits.

Does every other student on campus get to eat for free at every meal?

Do they get free Nike apparel to wear?

How about a bi-annual stipend?

Free room and board?

Free textbooks?

Free tutoring?

The fact of the matter is they aren't like regular students. They get far and away more preferential treatment than your average Joe. Should they be compensated for it? Absolutely. They already are. Plain and simple.

Yep popular with everyone on campus, have to try just to not get laid. On tv, celebrity status, chance to be remembered forever. They are paid fine...but that said the school shouldnt be milking every dollar out of the program at all cost

ok, lets pay them, say 100k a year per scholarship. however, they pay their own way for schooling, books, everything. they get free team clothing and when traveling they get meals. they must maintain a 3.0 gpa.

this is only right if you are going to turn college football into the minor league pro team. no more amateurs. obviously, with this set up a union will be involved.

I agree with you 100%

The irony is the same people who say they are against socialistic government or organizations of any kind, support a socialistic organization; the NCAA.

How anyone can justify it is okay for kids to generate billons; hundreds of millions for their university and have the money "re-directed" to other sports and to pay other bills is bizarre.

This is stupid.

Why do you get to set a ceiling for their worth yet want to force them to pay the market rate on their expenses?

If you want to use that dumb argument you would have to make a free market where you pay the kids their market rate. Then they would pay the market rate of the costs.

They aren't paid. They are compensated for their contribution and no where in any organization does the percentage of compensation dwarf the actual returns on investment like this.

No where.

Even Saban sees the hypocrisy in this situation and denouces it.

The worst part is you still get severe injuries no differently than in the league. Most aren't lucky enough to make it. There aren't retirement or trust funds like the NFL to aid these players (don't get me started on the league's shitty pension system). These players are out on their own after their eligibility unless the head coach is merciful.

It's truly a shitty system.

This is stupid. They freely elect to participate in a system that feeds them, clothes them. houses them, educates them, gives the free world class health care, and gives them an assload of cash just for the hell of it. It's voluntary and the compensation is certainly commensurate with the revenue they generate.

If you think it isn't, then you are really fricking clueless.

Truth. The idea of throwing millions at something based solely on gender or minority status, rather than merit, is pretty fricking stupid. Thanks for pointing that out.

ETA - and people who think that revenue is the same thing as profit are goddamn morons.

They're never going to get paid. The second that, potentially, changes is the day the NCAA moves to an Ivy league approach with scholarships.

The ripple effect due to title IX could likely kill multiple sports, especially womens, as well.

I guess you haven’t seen Saban’s speech about how important college is because only a small percentage end up making the NFL and even out of that group, an even smaller percentage actually make their second contract. So you better be prepared for a life without football.

These are college kids. The safety net shouldn’t be a pension plan or retirement fund. If they aren’t taking advantage of the free college education they are receiving, then its their own fault.

Been saying this for years.
A lot of CFB’s problems are due to being a free minor league for the NFL.

Pretty sure scholarship students can get all of that, which is who I'm referring to when I say "regular students".

And I'm pretty sure the university has some free tutoring program available to all students. If not, I still able to get help with many classes through various means for free, whether it was from another student in the class, a night session with a GA, etc.

College football players have been playing for 100 years without getting paid.

And yet, 99% of people would trade their own college experience where they had to pay, or get an academic scholarship, for the deal the football players get in a heartbeat.

Poor, poor football players. Cry me a fricking river. I'd have given my left nut to be good enough to get a football scholarship and endure those "hardships."

Here's an idea, if it's so unfair, they shouldn't do it. Then the people who think it's a good deal can take their spots. Maybe I'll finally get my big break.

I'm not sure I would. They had to work much harder than I ever did.

Not sure if you meant to respond to my post specifically but I didn’t advocate paying players
