I'm not sure that is the case this year, but it has happened before. It was painfully obvious in 2017 that Saban was playing the older guys instead of the wayyy more talented freshman.
Cam Sims and Robert Foster playing over Jeudy, Ruggs and Smith.
D. Harris and Scarborough playing over Jacobs and N. Harris.
Matt Womack playing over Leatherwood and Willis.
Hootie Jones playing over Thompson.
The worst one of them all, Hurts over Tua.
Look who was on the field in the 2nd half of the NCG against Georgia when Bama made their comeback. Tua, Jeudy, Ruggs, Smith, Jacobs, N. Harris, Leatherwood and Thompson all made that comeback happen.

We all saw how he got abused at center, but all those reps they keep giving him are so valuable it keeps him on the field. At some point you have to give someone else with the necessary physical gifts the opportunity to improve the team.

It's been brought up before. If Saban has an upperclassman that has put in his years and might make it to the next level, Saban will play him over a more talented underclassman until forced to make a change. I think we are at or nearing that point with Owens.
If you don't believe that statement, why were wholesale changes made in the natty against UGA at halftime where Tua, Leatherwood, and Najee among others came off the bench after the half and finished the game? Either there is a core of truth to the above statement or Saban was throwing in the towel, so you choose which one you believe.

Damien was just as good as Jacobs. The guy had back to back 1K rushing seasons averaging over 7 ypc. Don’t put him in the same category as post injury Bo

Or playing an offense that is primarily made up of true freshman is a high risk/high reward gamble and it wasn't worth taking until then?

I’ve said the same thing. It’s not difficult if the guys are actually communicating, but they seem to just be flustered and not even trying.
#8 has been a huge disappointment. He should know the scheme by now, but he continuously takes himself out of plays.
The LB play lands solely on Golding. If he isn’t capable of getting someone like #8, who’s been on the field a couple of years, on the right page… well, it’s poor coaching.

Believe it or not, but some of us actually understand the game, and like to see where the weaknesses and strengths of our own team lie. We may also do the same thing with other teams; watch them to see what we’re up against.
It’s called “being a fan of the sport.” We realize that it is, after all, just a game. It’s not “misery” to us, because we actually don’t rely on a sport played by college kids to dictate our emotional state.

Bama came back from being down and pretty much dominated the game . . . until 5 minutes left. I mean, outside of the kickoff return, Bama was pretty freakin' good after half time.
Then, everything came off the rails.
It's almost as if they thought, "We just showed we are big bad Bama, we don't have to do anything else in this game to win."
A lot of immaturity on this team. I will not be surprised if they win out and I won't be surprised if they lose 2 more games.
