Interesting read
fricking Tyler Watts.
quote:
There were rumors going around the locker room that they were going to move me to defensive back. I packed my bags that night to go back home the next day. I called my mom and, of course, she said pray about it and talked with her in the morning. I did, and I changed my mind.
I found out later the rumors were from another quarterback. He did it to get in my head. I was already on edge about it.
fricking Tyler Watts.

Watts wasn't even on that team. He hadn't signed with Alabama yet.

I was being sarcastic.

Correct. Zow's redshirt yr, Freddie Kitchens, Jon David Phillips were the 2 main guys.
All I can really say is.. Dubose.

I've already seen it speculated elsewhere it was him. The Zow-Watts QB controversy won't ever die. Even to the point of blaming one or the other for things they weren't a part of.

Kitchens would have been, what, a senior? Not sure about Phillips. I doubt Kitchens would have felt threatened by a true frosh QB, so unless he's just a supreme dick, I don't think he would have been behind it.
Were there any other QBs in Zow's class or one above?

Phillips was a Jr. No others that ever saw playing time or threatened playing time I don't think.

I may not be able to remember every detail or player from those days but I do remember sitting in front of the t.v. thinking, "WTF?".
Those were some crazy arse years and situations.

Zow was not a very good qb. Color and rumors had nothing to do with anything.
Attention whore.

Then Bama has had a lot of "not very good" QBs in their recent history. Other than the 2000 season, Zow's numbers were pretty good...and even with those, many of his career numbers are on par with Smith, Hollingsworth, Barker, Burgdorf, Kitchens, and JPW, just to name a few...

Just stop it Pete. Stats could make boise state look like the greatest program of all time. He was average at best, occasionally.

i liked zow. he was a tough cookie. the team would have been better had the coaches just let him play instead of yanking him around all the time.
as for watts. he was the best qb bama ever had at keeping the ball on 3rd or 4th and long and coming up short, at crunch time.

Maybe Zow did receive that concussion bc the Miss st game he is referencing when richey came in , Alabama won 24-17.

I was considering the veracity of your statement until I read the bolded name, at which point I had to focus all my energy to resist vomiting.

Not basing it solely on stats...I enjoyed watching him play...he came off the bench late in '01 and led us to 4 straight wins, including an Iron Bowl beat down and a bowl game win...and he was pretty good in his freshman and sophomore years as well...

He had one bad year (2000) and that wasn't all on him. And most of the QB's I mentioned in my post above could also be said to be pretty much average. How many truly stellar QBs have we had at Bama? Average QBs at Bama have done pretty well, and Zow did help us to an SEC championship which was impressive, especially since it was done in the DuBose years...
