Former Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops is expected to join Alabama's staff in an off-field role, @usatodaysports has learned. Stoops will become the latest in a line of Nick Saban’s practice of adding prominent coaches as analysts/consultants.

Also Aaron Suttles just hinted that Bobby Petrino will be joining the staff as well.

Suttles said that Saban and Petrino have talked, but that he doesn't know what exactly they talked about. Might have been about Petrino being and analyst, might have been about something else entirely.

Saban and Bobby won't last long.

Bobby doesn't take orders well.

Someone on reddit said it best:

Saban gonna go on a quad-peat natty run with Butch Jones as OC and Mike Stoops as DC for his swan song. As he gets his final natty he mic drops the trophy, grabs his balls, and walks off into the darkness. Never to be seen again.

He doesn't need to be anywhere near our program.

I actually like all these moves. These are dudes who have seen success, a good amount of it actually, at one point in time in their careers, who were on a fast upward trajectory, then for whatever reason things did not work out well for them.

Think about the combined years of experience as either coordinator or head coach between Jones, Petrino, Sarkisian, and Stoops...

What is this supposed to mean? He's a negative influence on a program, players and recruits. Better yet, why would you want him to be a part of our program?

Petrino isn't going to be "part of the program." There's no indication that Saban was talking to him about football, period. As they said later in the show, it's possible Petrino was asking for a deal on a Mercedes.

If Petrino does wind up doing anything for Saban / Alabama, I'm guessing it'll be in an analyst-type role for a very limited period of time -- similar to what DJ Durkin did for us in December.

For one, I don't think Saban would have hired him if he was going to be a negative influence on players or recruits. The Second Chances Saban has given other ex head coaches/ big name coordinators has usually worked out good for both parties. I think it's good to have the experience as an analyst and what he can bring to the table versus an inexperienced analyst

First of all, Saban can make mistakes.
Secondly, he has hired people that he has had to turn around and let go or suggest they look elsewhere.
