This is my thoughts as well.

Getting punched in the mouth every day at practice instead of playing 7 v 7 is EXACTLY how to reclaim our identity on defense.

I coached football for 20 years and you are exactly right. A football team gets its identity from its offensive style.

A lot of ND fans called him that when he played, but a lot of his turnover issues were pretty common for QBs asked to play from their freshman year forward at that time.

I thought he was better than Golson at the time.

The stats don’t really jump off the page for Rees as a coordinator at ND.

That said, the offensive players he had at ND don’t really jump off the page either.

This past year in particular their QB room was weak, and their receiving corp wouldn’t scare anybody. Marshall played a lot of single man and ND’s receivers still couldn’t separate.

I think the dude they had starting in the bowl game is worse than every starting QB we've had since Saban got here.

I agree. He will be allowed to throw a bit of his flavor in there, but it will still look alot like the same rpo based attack we were running pre Bryce.

Notre Dame's starting QB (Buckner?) got hurt in the first or second game of the season. Drew Pyne started the rest of the year, then transferred out before the bowl game (he was fairly physically limited, and knew he wasn't in their long term plans). The QB in their bowl game (Coan) was a transfer from Wisconsin (second year at ND).

Basically for 2022 we averaged 7 more passes per game than Notre Dame did. They averaged 6 more runs per game than we did.

that dont sound like much. but then you ask, how many of their runs were on first down, up the middle, for 2 yards or less? bama with bob started, oh i'd guess upwards of 40% of their drives this exact way. keeping the offense behind the chains and under pressure.

Just be a little more physical in the run game and don't be predictable with whatever you're calling. Don't run on every first down... don't run on 2nd and 10...and let's not get in shotgun on 3rd and inches.

I'd prefer they just analyze the opponent. Scheme to create mismatches and opportunities.

Hiring Rees is a head scratcher. Based on the comments I have read the Notre Dame fans seem to be celebrating. Your offense has to be designed to beat the good teams. Alabama can beat 70 or 80 percent of their opponents with any offense. Without Bryce the last two years we would have lose 7 or 8 games and I believe that is because of play calling. The last 4 or 5 years Coach Bryant ran the wishbone the teams they beat could have been beaten with any offense. The thing that irritated me the most about BOB's offense is how long it took to get the play off. I read Rees does the same thing. To me school is out on this hire. Hopefully Coach Saban know some things that will make this post irrelevant.

I've watched a few ND games on YouTube the last couple of days (seems strange to watch ND looking for anything hopeful). I didn't note that to be a problem for them in the games I watched, at least not nearly the problem we had. Sometimes they even ran a little tempo. My sample size was pretty small, though.

I’ve been watching games as well and that didn’t seem to be a problem. They normally would line up and get the play call from the sideline. Against Clemson they huddled then quickly lined up and snapped the ball to keep them from adjusting. Many of the passing plays called had people open, their QB just couldn’t get them the ball. My only concern is QB development. Their QBs were no my very good.
