Lane is going to run his roster with 50-55 good players. The rest is for practice players and on the cheap.

BOL is reporting that Mbakwe is likely leaving for a 7 figure NIL deal.
Props to Jalen on that, of course, but I believe now that we've hit the stage where a DB with 15 career tackles is worth that kind of a deal the acceleration toward a workable system will reach a breakneck speed.
There is no longer any economic scale between college football and the NFL, and that HAS to exist, or the whole way football is organized will have to be radically changed.
And if he has a decent year, hell be off to the next highest bidder.
One thing that should never happen is the university ever rolling out the red carpet for these guys in the future after they are done with football. They sold away their rights to being in the fraternity of former players at Bama.

Sincere question. Why give props to him? You said yourself his play hasn't warranted that. It's not really something he deserves props for, it's just the result of bidding wars in a broken system. It's like some of these worthless B tier cryptocurrencies that pop off from time to time. It's just wild speculation, not the result of any genius or talent.

It sucks but if you look at everything objectively…..
Poor arse families/kids are confronted with making millions. Good for them.
With that being said…this system is completely broken and fricked. Folks should be pissed about that.

Man there's hurt feelings about this kid. Holy shite.
He and his family have done absolutely nothing wrong here. He's a professional football player and he took what he believes is a better job. It's not his fault there aren't any guardrails with all this shite.
More power to him.

Im not hating on him but why does he even pretend to care?

yeah I mean, I really can't be mad about a kid/his family not turning down 7 figures. No one here would turn that down. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Younger me would enjoy watching Alabama fans squirm about the transfer portal and losing some great players. Older me understands that this cannot continue in college athletics. Something has to be done to discontinue the obvious tampering, ridiculous roster turnover and a Wild Wild West type of free agency.
Every single professional sports organization has a contract that ties the player to the team, except college football.
Sign a contract, set a buyout and then also set a punishment for a broken contract. Player “X” has to sit out a season if they break their contract with the school they’re at, and the school they transfer to also has to pay the buyout if he signs with someone else immediately.

This makes me want to just follow the NFL more and college football less.
This is chaos. There is no order.

Why do you think he's "pretending"?
He's leaving this job for what he and his family believes is a better one. He's not allowed to have genuine feelings about leaving supportive fans, teammates, coaches and all the other people he has relationships with?
He's a professional football player. He does this for a living. If we assume it's only about money, then consider the possibility that the Alabama Crimson Tide Collective either refused to meet his salary demands or simply couldn't.
This is business now. All of it.
