I have nothing but positive feelings about Sears' mom. Seems like she raised a great kid, cares and is engaged. I even like the FT thing some people complain about -- that quirky stuff makes sports fun.
Mark himself should probably let her know he wasn't benched for missing shots. Especially now that every little thing has to become a social media soap opera.

I don't think he was benched because he shot poorly though. I don't think Nate has ever benched someone for poor shooting (and god knows we have all begged for him to at times)
Depends on the kind of shots they are missing. Earlier in the season (I want to say against South Carolina) Holloway hit a middie, but then he took another one a couple of possessions later, missed it, and immediately got subbed out. On the other hand, Holloway could miss 4 floaters in a row and probably not get benched because he has proven that to be a high % shot for him. I bet if Cliff took 3s on back to back possessions he'd find himself out of the game as well.
It's more about shot selection than misses and makes. He doesn't want guys taking bad shots.

Same. Although, I wish everything didn't have to be on social media, but that's the world we live in now. I'm sure I'd react to anyone talking about my kid too.

I know that she is his mom, but she needs to not snowplow for her kid and focus more on him making sure that he is doing what he needs to do to succeed in life.
I have never let my kids tell me that a teacher or coach abuses them or is biased or what not. 99.99% that is just not true and the teacher or coach will embarrass you if you go storming in whining about mistreatment or bias.
I know this was the mom and not Mark, but stuff like that rubs off on kids.

why does it feel like that anything good or bad that happens at Alabama it is blown up?
1) 3-4 teams view us as their biggest rivals. That amplifies situations like this.
2) Media outlets have figured out that Bama-hate and trolling Bama fans is an easy way to drive clicks.
3) We are one of the bigger brands in sports, so we’re going to get more attention than your average SEC team.

Maybe listen to your kids if they are telling you that. Some teachers are terrible. Damn sure dont give them all the benefit of the doubt. Not over your kids. Wtf dude.

I generally try to mind my tone and give people the benefit of grace, but you sir, are an idiot who believes himself a sage.

I generally tend to side with what LovetheLord is saying.. Of course there are exceptions, but Sears has played for Oats for 3 years and came back for a super senior season so I feel like he has built some cache to be trusted by Sears Mom...
That said, by all accounts from Nate and everyone involved, Sears is a very hard worker who goes the extra mile far more than most. Tales of Sears coming back home after the Illinois game from Birmingham and shooting until 3 in the morning in Tuscaloosa were told by Nate himself. Many other examples of him shooting 500-1000 shots per day and being told to go home. He's never been labeled a guy who lacks work ethic and who doesn't hold himself accountable. He can at times be slow on defense.
The only part of this that bothers me is suspending a POY candidate in his super senior year mid game is a tough collar to put on a player. Even though most of us don't think Sears has a pro career in the NBA, he and his family certainly do. Being brutally honest here, Nate just put a pretty strong stigma on Mark that he will be judged by. If his chances of making an NBA roster were slim, they just became razor thin if he get's thought of as a guy that lacks heart and work ethic. I would like to think that is the last thing Nate wanted to do, but it's a consequence of what just happened. If Nate had suspended him for a game for breaking team rules, it's forgotten. But Nate questioned his heart in front of a national audience and honestly he humiliated him. I think at times Nate shoots from the hip and we all enjoy it, but I would bet 1000 times over that unless it was something that was just absolutely unforgivable that Mark did, he probably has some regrets about this one.

Good points.
I would bet dollars to doughnuts though that Nate did not do this lightly. He loves his guys.

I think he is a coach who loves his players and in fairness, Mark may have done something that couldn't be overlooked in the locker room. I just hate the way it all went down. They are both great representatives for the University and sometimes a coach has to do things that are almost unfathomable and to a speculator like myself I have to remember that.

Yep. I like them both. I trust that things will work out well for Mark Christopher.

Oats must make the decisions that are in the best interest of Alabama Basketball. Some of those decisions will be unpleasant for individuals and may not make perfect sense to anyone with less than complete knowledge of the situation. There may be regrets even, but the decisions must be made nonetheless. I trust Nate Oats. I like Mark Sears. Those statements can coexist.

Call me whatever you want. Your claim was that coaches and teachers dont abuse kids or even show bias.
If i were truly a fool i would feel the need to argue that point with you. I believe you either made a poor choice of words or you are too stupid to argue with. But if im wrong, please elaborate on why you think teachers and coaches never abuse or show bias.

I did not say that teachers NEVER abuse or show bias. I am not sure why you feel justified in putting those words in my mouth.
Here are the facts, there are hundreds of thousands of teachers and coaches, the overwhelming majority of which are good. You read in the news about the rare exceptions who abuse students, that’s why it is newsworthy.
There are also millions of students. 90% of those at some point think some teacher or coach Wronged them. The test was unfair. It was culturally biased. Coach has his favorites. Blah, blah, blah. The overwhelming reality is that the teacher/coach is not unfair, the kid just either is not working hard enough, has a poor attitude, or just isn’t as good Ashe/she thinks.
I tell you what, next time your kid comes complaining, go barge into the teacher or coach’s office and tell them they are unfair because little Jonny told you so. You will walk out of there with your grease covered Browning cap in hand and a new perspective. Don’t worry, though, you won’t be the first.
This does not give teachers, principals and coaches free rein. If there are reports of sex abuse, by all means, investigate.
If “the coach has favorites” or “ole Ms. so-in-so just don’t like me”, then kick your whiney kid in the butt and tell them to get better. Snowflakes have snowplow parents.

If my kid ever told me her teacher wasn't being fair, I would assume she had a good reason for saying that, and ask her to explain. But, my kid was taught how to rationally express herself from an early age, and how to consider things logically rather than emotionally.
Maybe your kids are different... for some reason. But, I wouldn't make broad statements about kids based on your own experiences.
Also, none of this has anything to do with a college player getting benched for 20 minutes.

That's right. You said 99.99% of accusations are simply not true. That means that 1 in 10000 are telling the truth when they say their coach or teacher is abusing them. That is a dumbass thing to say. You can word vomit all the responses you want. I think you probably misspoke. I hope we can agree that parents should listen to their kids if they report abuse from their coaches or teachers.

LOL. That's rational. 9999 times in 10,000 the teacher is right, but I will believe my kid, because of that 1 in 10,000.
So... how many other decisions in life do you make based on taking the .0001% likelihood? I genuinely want to know.
In the end, you are free to go down and fight your kids fights with "bully" teachers and coaches. Tell all the other parents about how your kid deserves more playing time, but the coach is just biased. Have at it.
As for me, I told my kids to take responsibility and called bull when they claimed the teacher or coach was biased. They have all grown up and become responsible and productive adults who don't whine and complain about "Life not being fair". They accept responsibility, work hard and are becoming successful. I support them where they need to be supported, but I won't be coddling their egos or paving their way. Success is for the resilient and persistent.
I have a legitimate question; are you one of those people who thinks that your parents should give you their house, because you have a family and they don't need that big old place?
