The dude has no connection to the University, doesn't even root for us. Him being a veteran has nothing to do with today and nothing to do with College Gameday.
If they're trying to just pick veterans I'm sure there are many who are actually Alabama fans who they could have called to do the show.

It would have made sense to bring in one of his family members as a guest speaker. It also would have shone some light to his sacrifice and give his story a better platform.

Katy Perry's boyfriend is not an OM alum, her manager is.
She doesn't "support" OM in any way, shape, or form.
She had a concert in Memphis the next week and her manager used his OM connections to get her on Gameday for publicity and since she was already going to be in the area for a concert, the schedule worked.

Look at all the attacks.
All because a person dared to say he would like a picker who actually had some connection with the University.
What a terrible person I must be to hope we could use a Veteran who is either an alum or a family member of a fallen solider to give THEM publicity instead of one who has no ties to the University at all.

My only complaint with all is this is that people keep refering to him as a Soldier. He is not a Soldier, he is either a Sailor or a SEAL (actually an acronym).

I doubt that was ever an option since they always seem to pick celebrity types. So the options were:
1. Luttrell - no Bama connections other than speaking to the team but a true military hero who happened to be in town the week of Veterans Day
2. Some B-list celebrity who is a Bama fan and will probably be available next time we host Gameday
BamaChick showed that it's not unheard of or really even unusual for the guest picker to have no connections to either team. Given the choices, I think they would've been crazy not to invite Luttrell
