I was still really pessimistic on this LSU team going into the Ole Miss game. We had looked better but I thought we were still far behind the top 4 SEC teams. After this Ole Miss game though I think we have shown the kind of improvement we've been looking for with the exception of the passing game. The fact that we turned the ball over 5 times (including a fumble on the 1) and were still able to win the game says something about how far the team has come. Also I look at Alabama and I see a very good but not vintage crimson tide squad that has appeared to be vulnerable on the line and doesn't play particularly well on the road. After the Ole Miss win this is guaranteed to be a raucous atmosphere and if we can do what we did against Ole Miss just without the turnovers, I think we've got a pretty good chance to win.
All of that having been said, I realize that Alabama has a good deal more depth than ole miss does, and we're not going to be able to run the ball downhill in the 2nd half the way we were against the rebels. I also think that Lane Kiffin is going to bring a much better gameplan in than Hugh did, and Alabama won't be as prone to being rattled from the crowd as some ole miss players (Bo Wallace in particular) were. This may not be as good as the 2012 Alabama team that came in a gave us what is still 1 of only 3 home losses over the last 6 years, but they will be very disciplined bunch that's not going to beat themselves. I'm not 100% sure that we've got the experience on offense or the horses on the defensive front to go out and take this game away from Alabama, but I do think with the improvement we've seen and the home field advantage, we're one of only a small handful of teams who can go toe to toe with y'all and have a shot at coming out on top. I'm looking forward to another classic and I also know that if this series really is going to turn into a major rivalry for the 21st century, we're going to need to get one back on you after losing the last 3.

you cant pass very well, we should be able to stack the line against you. we are already the best run defense in the sec. its going to come down to if you can make several big plays in the passing game and how many times we turn it over. When we protect the ball we are unstoppable. On paper it looks like we should win handily, we are better or as good at everything except pass defense, and we are still pretty good there. You guys are not good in pass offense or stopping the run. I am afraid of the crowd noise affecting us getting the plays in again on the road though.

In fairness, we have won many many games over the years without much of a passing attack. That puts a lot of pressure on the defense though. Is this defense as good as some of those in the past? I think that's an open question but we're going to have to hit at least a few passes if we expect to win this game.
Our run defense has improved a good bit the last few weeks but I concede that bama is a different animal. But I don't agree with you that Alabama is a dramatically better team than LSU at this point in the season, particularly when looking at how Alabama has played in the road.

If we were playing in Tuscaloosa I would argue this till we both turned blue, but we will be in Baton Rouge so who knows what will happen.
However, it will be the first time back since...

We've had communication problems on both offense and defense this season...and in Baton Rouge at night, I'm afraid this will test us in that phase as no other game has yet. Tack on that we haven't been as good on the road and I'm expecting a close game...I'd be content with any kind of win, pretty, ugly, or any where in between...

I thought maybe we could have a thread to talk about the game without being homers or trying to flame, but I guess that's too much to ask. Too bad.

The visiting team is 23-9 in the last 32 years (not counting the tie). That's a .719 winning percentage for the visiting team over three decades. So in spite of the hype, history has proven over a very large sample size that the venue has very little impact on the game.
If this was Sims' first game in a hostile environment, I would be worried. It isn't. Neyland was extremely loud Saturday, and Sims was 11 for 15 converting 3rd downs.
Other than that, I can't really disagree with most of the OP.

This Bama team lives and dies by its quarterback more so than any other team under the CNS era. That's not to say that we don't have a decent defense. Our defense is about the same as last year. TJ and Henry are pretty good, but they aren't 2009 Ingram good where we can depend on them to carry the game if our qb is herp derping. Plus our oline just isn't that good without Cam Rob.
If good Blake shows up to Tiger Stadium and we have no turnovers then we probably win comfortably. If Arky/OM Blake shows up then it's going to be really close, and I could see it going either way. Of course if injuries happen anything we thought about the game goes right out the window. While Bama has good depth, we do not have experienced depth. We will have likely two new starters for the LSU game on the oline alone. Leon Brown moved from Right guard to left tackle and Bradley Bozeman took over for Leon Brown at right guard. Whether or not that will be our plan of action going into Death Valley is up for debate.
I am curious to see if LSU will be cocky enough to try to single-cover Coop or if they will take Arky/OM advice and bracket him.

Also to add that he doesn't need to be TAMU/UF Blake for us to possibly win. He just needs to be around UT minus the clock difficulties.

I think LSU has a major chance to destroy Bama's championship dreams. From an X's and O's standpoint, the DBs of LSU scare me. Reason being is that I doubt they will drop any of the INTs that other DBs have magically seemed to drop. LSU offense plays in the strengthens of our Defense, but I'm sure Les is going to give Cam the okay to test our DBs often and early. If it is a close game, I think LSU wins because Les will pullout every trick of the trade, but if Blake and Co. kick arse early, this game will be all Bama.

I think it depends on what Alabama team shows up. LSU isn't as good as they normally are. I think we match up well against them but anything could happen in Death Valley...I do like the fact that we played such a heated crowd at Neylend (normal Al UT rivalry +their hatred for Kiffen) so it's not like Blake hasn't played in a loud stadium. Death Valley is different though...
Man....I gotta say Alabama pulls this out but I think this is gonna be a close one.
Losing Cam Rob is a killer

My apologies if you took my post as trying to flame, I assure you it was not.
I was making a point that if we were playing in T-town you would see a vastly different team than on the road; we all know that Alabama looks like they are missing a chromosome or two when we play on the road.
The .gif is also a point that i'm sure LSU fans haven't forgotten Mr. Sims actions from that night and they will be making sure he has a difficult time hearing himself think, let alone communicating to his offense.
LSU's willingness to use the power run game should be an advantage for us seeing as how we defend the run very well (sans the UT game). If we can keep your run game in check and make your QB beat us with his arm I feel that we will feel comfortable with our chances.
On Offense we need to stay out of 2nd/3rd and long by having effective plays on 1st down; none of that cute reverse out of the wildcat shite we saw from Kiffin against UT. I feel that if we can get a few sustained scoring drives early on we will take some of the fight out of LSU, otherwise if we keep them in it and the crowd is getting crazy at night, it is going to be a war for 4 quarters.

Feels a lot like 2010. Stacked 1-loss Bama team coming in to BR to take on an LSU team with bad QB play. Bama will be favored, as they were then. Losing Cam Rob is huge. This game is a toss-up.

I think this team is a bit stronger in the front seven and possibly the secondary than that 2010 team. If the defense we have seen the past few weeks is the one that shows up in Tiger Stadium, I like our chances. I think their offense plays into our defense very well. I have to think that they will try to pass it some to open up the run game. I am just not sure Jennings is capable of consistently doing that.
