This is not meant to be a negative post, but I was just looking at some mock drafts, noticed a distinct lack of Alabama players, and started wondering what Alabama's floor and ceiling were in drafted players in the Saban era. I'm sure most of you remember that 0 is technically the floor, because Alabama did not have a single player drafted in 2008, but that really didn't have much to do with Saban, so I'm not going to count it.

In 2009, Alabama got their first first-round pick since 2000 when Andre Smith went to the Bengals at 6th overall. The Tide proceeded to put 4 total in the draft that year. 7 went in 2010, dropped to 5 in 2011, and hasn't dipped below 7 since, with double-digits going in 4 of the last 5 years.

In 2015 and 2016, Alabama only had 1 player drafted in the first round, but no less than 3 since and as many as 6. This year, only Evan Neal is projecting solidly in the first round.

Draft-eligible from this year's team - Projected round:
Evan Neal - 1
Jameson Williams - 1/2
John Metchie III - 2/3?
Slade Bolden - ?
Christopher Allen - ?
Brian Robinson Jr - 4/5
Phidarian Mathis - 3/4?
Jalyn Armour-Davis - 3/4?
Christian Harris - 2/3
Chris Owens - ?
LaBryan Ray - ?
Josh Jobe - 2/3/4?

How likely is it that all of those guys will be drafted? Two-thirds? Will we be looking at the lowest number of drafted players in over a decade or will this year be more like 2015-2016 with a low first-round number but a strong showing overall?

With all that said, Neal could possibly be Saban's first overall #1 draft pick, which would take some of the sting out of not getting the usually publicity of 10-15% of the first round being Bama guys.

ETA: Totally forgot about Josh Jobe/didn't see him on the projections I looked at.

If not Evan Neal, I think BY has an excellent chance to be #1 next year

Is Trent Richardson at #3 the highest?

3 has been the highest, with Dareus, Trent, and Quinnen Williams all going in that slot. Coop went 4th, Tua 5th, and Andre, Julio, and Waddle were all picked 6th.

Fun fact: I had forgotten that Mark Barron was drafted so high - 7th overall by Tampa Bay in 2012.

I think that all the guys you have numbers by will get drafted with possibly the exception of JAD. I think some injury questions could leave him undrafted. I think Jobe also has a shot and I think someone will take Allen.

I don’t see Owens, Bolden, or Ray getting picked. That means 7-8 selections if I had to guess.

I think that highlights how much last year’s team was able to achieve. There is a ton of talent on the team but quite a bit was in the underclassmen ranks.

Looks like you left Josh Jobe off the list. Just looking around at various projections it's looking like this.

Draft-eligible from this year's team - Projected round:
Evan Neal - Top 5 pick, most likely #1 overall and won't slip past #3
Jameson Williams - Mid-late 1st (pick 15-29) Even with the injury, he has elite speed.
John Metchie III - Mid-late 2nd, possibly slips the the early 3rd. (40-70 pick)
Christian Harris - Mid to late 2nd (45-60 pick)
Josh Jobe - Late 2nd, early 3rd (most have him around the 60-70 pick)
Phidarian Mathis - Late 2nd - mid 3rd (65-100 pick)
Jalyn Armour-Davis - Mid-Late 3rd (most have him going around the 90th pick)
Brian Robinson - 3rd round maybe 4th because of the devalued RB position (Someone is going to get a deal with him)
LaBryan Ray - Late 2nd day pick

Probably undrafted
Slade Bolden
Christopher Allen
Chris Owens

I guess you could say Jamarcus Russell might count since he recruited him to LSU. But he wasn't there for his *cough* "development".

Will Anderson would be my first pick over anyone else and as of now, Bryce 2cd and Bresee 3rd.

Stroud is going to get massive hype and push though.

I might have missed it, but I have not seen one mock that does not have J Williams in the 1st round. Barring unforseen complications from his knee I would say he is a 1st round lock.

I think we will have 8 for sure, most likely 9, and possibly 10 drafted. Is anyone projected to have more than that in this draft?

Next year will be Bryce 1 if they need a qb, and Mr Anderson if not. Easy pick for the worst team next year.

Yep, totally missed him, my bad.

Looking at your list, it really stands out that a lot of those guys have been impacted by injuries. I think that, more than even talent level or playcalling, will end up being the story of last season. Just looking at the seniors/draft eligible guys from last season:

Jameson would probably be a top 10-15 pick if he hadn't got hurt.
Metchie would likely be a borderline first round pick.
Jobe, JAD, Ray, Robinson, and of course, Allen were all hampered by injuries.

We can't know for sure, but at different points throughout their time with Alabama, almost all of those guys looked great and could possibly have played their way into first-round consideration. Injuries suck.

I don't disagree you at all. Did I say something to make you think otherwise? Didn't mean to if I did. I was speaking of the 2023 top 3 picks.
