re: Kiffen would have been the right play. It's true. I fear Deboer is smoke and mirrors.

They think “we were conference champions last year, ergo we’re loaded with talent.”
Someone posted a list a while ago of everyone that we lost from that roster. The “we’re loaded with talent” brigade conveniently avoid that. Maybe it should be a sticky post.
I mean, we don’t suck by any means, but this team wasn’t close to being a legitimate threat to win the big trophy and IMO the single worst off the field thing to happen to us was being No. 1.

Yeah look at Ohio State and Texas. Experienced and talented. Hell look at Sark when he first got to Texas. They were ready to run him out of town by year 3.
OSU right now...is the kind of talent the toddler tantrum THINKS Bama has. The talent level really was for a 9-4 kind of team

We'll never know how this team would have looked with a real QB.

DeBoer took a traditionally mid-level NAIA team that had one national championship in its history and won 3 national titles in 4 years. They moved from NAIA to Div II based on the success they had with Coach DeBoer.
He's coached three QBs as a head coach.
Jake Haener threw for 4000+ yards in his 3rd season with DeBoer and is in the NFL.
Penix threw for 4500+ yards in his 4th year with DeBoer and is a starter in the NFL. Nobody recruited Penix out of highschool but DeBoer.
And then there's Milroe.
Your dismissive and ignorant assessment of DeBoer is noted.

Agreed. Watching these games today and I feel confident in saying Arizona St would be the most comparable talent wise to Alabama. I really think talent evaluation has suffered tremendously the last few years.

And Sark almost shite the bed vs ASU with a vastly superior roster.

OL nor DL were championship level. Not even close.

Oh please! The defense got a lot better over the season. Stastically, I think years D was better than last years.

We probably would have a couple less losses and would be in the playoffs but I don’t see us getting past the second round.

zero improvement over 13 games.
On offense this is certainly true. I have to believe it's all Milroe though.
DeBoer made Penix into a first round pick. He just needs a QB with a functioning brain.
I think Wommack is quietly building a really nice defense here.
If we have a QB capable of completing a forward pass next year, we should be good

Well, the troll accomplished his goal. The shithead does this after every loss and creates a stir.

Although ASU had something to do with that, they were gamers who left it all on the field and I’d have sold my firstborn to have their No. 4 on our roster.

Rivercity always has the worst threads on this board. He’s like that weird dude that brings egg salad to the party but you love him anyway.

God love people like that.
I made the crude comment earlier today that our fan base has the tendency to display the mood swings of a 16-year-old girl at that time of the month.

I agree. Scheme-wise, though, we were obviously susceptible to QB run. Need to spend some time in the offseason figuring out how we defend that better.

You have factor in that Milroe was unstoppable at times. Georgia and LSU would have been completely different games with a "normal QB"
It could have been that Bama beats Oklahoma and Vandy..loses to Georgia
Its clear that having a consistent QB is much better than having one that is a world beater for 2-3 games and terrible in all other games
Posted on 1/1/25 at 5:14 pm to InkStainedWretch
I don't disagree. I'm just saying that given the difference in perceived roster talent that game shouldn't have been close.

I’ve told this story before, a very wise old coach named Bill Burgess who coached my alma mater in my avatar to the D2 national championship the same year Bama beat Miami to win the big trophy once told me that there’s one absolutely unchanging, immutable, set not just in stone but in diamond given in football: s**t happens.
And because s**t happens, you can have better talent, you can be perfectly healthy, you can have a perfect game plan and execute that plan perfectly, but when s**t happens you can still get your arse beat.
And when you get your arse beat because s**t happens, there’s nothing you can do except get up, go to the house and get ready for the next one.
